Would the likes of Lacazette (Lyon) or Castaignos (Twente) be out of our range?

If it is true about Lyon having to cut back, then Lacazette might not be.

    Castaignos is though.

Their "market value" is supposed to be £7.5M (Lacazette) and £5.3M (Castaignos) so unless Bruce wants to smash our transfer record again (unlikely)

You don't get it, do you?

If Lyon has to cut back, their players will be available for less.

And you can't always trust market values anyway. I'm pretty sure Thudd's market value was more than what we paid.

Brilliant! So if there such good value to be had all of a sudden, why did we dick around with Sagbo at £1.5M for (his market value) if three weeks later, the market has bombed and we could have picked up Lyon's best for the same wonga.

erm... because a) he won't have gone down to the price of Sagbo and b) we needed to bring in a ****ing striker a few weeks ago, you idiot.

Are people really looking at that website that states a player's 'value' and taking it as fact?

An idiot is someone who takes a non-existent hypothesis (e.g. Bruce interested in Lacazette), makes assumptions without any firm evidence (Lyon prepared to sell him at cut-price AND that this cut-price would be within City's remaining budget) and then name-calls others who point out the flaws in this conclusion.

Lyon's financial troubles have not suddenly occurred overnight. They started a programme of austerity two years ago.

Only 2 weeks ago they agreed to sell Gomis to Newcastle for 10 million Euros, and the only thing that stopped this deal from going through was a dispute over agency fees. Now strangely enough the same database says his market value for the past two years has averaged 11 million Euros.

So if City were to get the same "cut price" deal as Newcastle for Lacazette then we would still have to break our transfer record to do so.

Which is what I said in the first place.

No people are plucking their own figures out of thin air and taking them as fact.

Trying to come up with your own value for a player would make more sense, and make you look less of a tit, than stating some website which claims to be the authority on players' values, as if they are set figures.

They are not set figures, they are guides. But still better than random numbers IMO.

Out of interest the website you are talking about TransferMarkt?

Anyway I didn't mean to bring any animosity by mentioning those two players, I was merely asking what level of players we are capable of getting given we have just landed Huddlestone. :undecided:

The only true valuation is the one given by clubs. Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot. How much do you think we value Robbie Brady or James Chester at? Just because they're in financial difficulty doesn't mean they actively want to sell their best players. And as Macca said, even with the reduced price, they're still expensive to us. I though £1.5 for Sagbo was a lot of money. I mean, since when was a million pounds not a lot of money?!

Keep up Tommy.... Not that I want to be OCD about this but you are crediting Macca with my line of argument.

To be honest I don't think £1.5m is a lot of money these days for a forward. In regards to Lyon they may not want to sell their best players but they may have no other choice.

I have now come to my senses as Lacazette is way out of our league. I was watching the Lyon vs Sociedad game and he looks a tidy player at ST/RF though!

You've just joined this board and you seem intent on falling out with most of the posters on it.

I can't really see the point of joining a message board and spending all your time falling out with fellow fans.

Unless of course you're not a fellow fan at all?

I haven't fallen out with anyone to my knowledge?

Is the point of a forum to have a debate?

If you read back through my posts, you will find that I have been consistent with my responses. There are however posters on here who seem to get away with name-calling and being dismissive of other views but seem to have an easy ride for no other reason than they have been posting for a longer time.
