Orrrr, if we don't make that 4th spot after another Coutinho fabulous year you spend a good whack of it plumping up his deal to convince him "we're on the right path" then we can keep looking. You've kept your 30 million player. I want Suarez gone anyway so I'm pleased with the 100% chance he'll be gone next summer. Two more exciting strikers then please or something lol
Oh you've made me look silly now. Anyway, seems to me we're in two distinct camps here. One side are desperate to make a marquee signing and will throw money at it if necessary, and the other side think we are best holding our ground and waiting for the right deal at the right price, even if it means missing out on some targets. I doubt we'll reconcile this so I expect it to rumble on for a while yet.
If Suarez goes next year and we get say £50 million who will we spend it on. We most likely now will not have CL to entice anyone major and if they won't come now while we have Suarez they sure as hell won't come next season. Add to that Couthino getting pissed off because he sees no progression and its not good. You have to remember that we haven't spent a penny this summer and saved a big chunk of payroll too.
More Suarez and Coutinhos. Apparently they weren't that hard to find & buy even by our limited standards and limited promises that attracted them first time around.
I'd like to see us go for Luis Muriel or Lamela if Spurs don't get him. Or test Real Madrid with a bid for Di Maria?..
I'm convinced that Eriksen would become a superstar if he joined a club in a better league (just like Torres did). He's not the perfect fit if we want Ford to be central but surely its about whats best for the team?
On transfer deadline day, I say we test Ajax with a bid of around £8m-£12m, if we bring him in, he can still add something to the squad, Coutinho might be playing wide left to accomodate him, but surely with the squad we have at the moment he'd play wide left anyway?? I say we just bring in Eriksen if we can't bring in a genuinely quality left sided player, because I don't want us to spend for the sake of it when we could be better off just strengthening the middle whilst Coutinho is most likely to stay out wide anyway.
There's a hell of a lot of supposition going on here. None of us know just what LFC offered to either Anzhi or the player and how that offer was structured. Neither do we know what Spurs offered or how that was structured. None of the clubs have made those detail known so all anybody is working on is supposition. What we do know is that for one reason or another the player appears to be having talks and maybe a medical with Spurs. Yet we have people shouting that we should have offered more!! How do they know? We don't know exactly where Willian was on the clubs 'wanted list' or what the highest prices was that we were prepared to pay. What I am glad to see from this affair is that the club are sticking to their guns i.e. "for the right player there is money available". So, it looks like we lost Willian. It's not the end of the world. It does not mean we can no longer qualify for CL this season. There are other fish in the sea either within this window or the next. So upwards and onwards. As my old school motto says fide laboure - or vote Labour if you will
I think we will play Suarez there when he returns. Sturridge up top, Aspas on right and Ford central. Eriksen coming in gives us options but I don't think it would take long for him to be seen in similar light as Migs, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard, Suarez and Ford (that's not a bad spine is it?)
My thinking exactly, and with more, young players with potential to progress, comes a sort of team spirit full of ambition and determination.
Floreat Dunum, Absque Labore Nihil Ignore the first bit, it too scarily seems to be hoping that Downing flourishes lol. The rest is appropriate here though.....
And yes, screw accommodating or "building a team around Suarez" if & when he comes back to play, he goes out wide like everyone else uses him, get the most out of his tenacity cutting in but dampen the effect of him losing the ball 50 times a game or being a greedy git.
Now that's for sure. If 1 thing has changed this Summer it is that LFC should never again build it's team around 1 player. When he comes back, he plays his guts out where and how we want him to play!
Turned TV on and got blast of the back to the future soundtrack. Thought, "Crap, an MFG post had arrived!"
No, it's 50% on any profit. Means if we sell him for 31m then they'd get 300k (50% on the 1mil profit)
