No by my logic if the club were prepared to put in days of work an thought he was a good for for the club then not being prepared to add an extra 10/15% on our bid price is a bit short sighted.
Shall I highlight the word "like" again? It's a small but important word right in the middle of his quote. He's going to a team like us only they offered more, play EL football & finished above us last year in the same league. He got the better team like us much as it doesn't sit well. As for going over budget, when's it stop? This player, then that player? Then every team knows we will go over budget so ask for "over budget" when opening the negotiations so do we go over over budget after that? Where did that leave us again? Oh right; having to pay what we did for Carroll Downing etc. yes they're not comparable as players but they are the end result of looking like suckers who will give in everytime in the market....
Fair enough, that's your view. IMO, if I go to the shop and I want a loaf of bread, I'm prepared to pay £1.50. If the shop keeper is trying to sell it for £2.00 I'd walk out and go to another shop
Exactly. Why waste time and resources with any potential deal if they dropped at the first hurdle? Should be better using that time and resources to find some proper deals under the radar.
Do have to say missing out on Mkhi ( 20ish), Costa ( 20ish), and Willian (30), when it comes to spending that money and getting that kind of player we keep tripping. Hopefully one of the next targets like this does land.
And get a comparable loaf for the same price or go hungry? See my point? Not many players of Willians quality available in the market
We've been over this earlier. I know there are quotes, but they can be lifted out of context to exaggerate their significance or any number of distortions. Since when do we believe all we read- unless it suits us to? Maybe he liked the idea of coming to the PL and would have come to us if no-one else piped up. My point is that if he really wanted to come to us he'd have held out for that. Someone said he has no say in the matter but is that true? If he readily signs for Spurs then in my opinion we're obviously not the dream move we think we are, so let him go. He's not the Messiah, etc......
Who had even mentioned or thought of Willian prior to the link? I'll tell you who, no one! All the eggs in one basket! (food related again?) If we get him, great. If we don't, so what? We move on. I appreciate the club watching the pennies. I don't want us to throw cash about like Man City, Chelsea and PSG!
So let's boil this down: who on here thought that with the team already put together PLUS Willian we would have been actual favourites for fourth even assuming Spurs would have went off & got a similar player plus who they've already acquired? Right so what you are saying is we are literally one decent winger away from 4th spot? Ok; name a replacement winger? If you're not saying that then absolutely nothing has changed from 2 weeks ago and we might be more competitive this year but still away from favourites for fourth...yes? Then it's not the end of the world to miss out on this player.
What are the thoughts now? Eriksen has been my preferred choice all summer, however i feel we may grab one more player for 6-7m and that's about it... Can't wait for 6th place again only next summer we will 100% lose suarez
not me, I'd have us down exactly the same as now because Willian doesn't play in a problem area for us! Signing him would no doubt improve our attack but our defence would remain an shambles
not me either. i backed spurs. honestly i was wondering where coutinho and stuurdge and suarez would go with him. spurs are there IMO.. soldado was the guy who i think will make the difference. I think personally what we need is another coutinho or sturridge impact. those are once in 5 years type buys. bags of goals and creativity if they can continue their run. Is a 20mil fee required... nope... BUT if you took that 30mil and turned up aguero for instance.... thats my thing. pull an amazing signing from somewhere... but have it be amazing by impact not by name. who? dunno... who knows who is the next name.
I would LOVE IT if the Bale deal fell through at the last minute. Levy: please log in to view this image
