Ben Smith of the BBC says Tottenham have completed talks with Willian and Erik Lamela, and will sign both. Yikes.
If Spurs do sign both of them, then my comment at the weekend about RVP being the only thing stopping Utd falling to 4th this season arguably becomes even more likely. (With the amount of goals he will score, I just can't see them finishing as low as 4th - but Spurs are surely going to be right on their heals).
I dunno about a title challenge. That'd rely on everybody in their squad adapting and gelling very quickly. Maybe next year.
Agreed. But also they've rarely played with the same fluidity as teams above them which could also be a problem. Grinding out results is great but you can't grind out 38 per season and they rarely seem to thrash teams
In fairness to Arsenal, Gustavo's gone to Wolfsburg because they've offered him something like £130k p/w and Arsenal weren't prepared to do the same.
Well if what's been said above comes to fruition, their signings this summer will have been... Fabio Coentrao Etienne Capoue Paulinho Nacer Chadli Willian Erik Lamela Roberto Soldado
Well I've seen 8 million euros a year reported a few times which comes to £130k a week. Wolfsburg have denied it's that much to be fair but even if the wages aren't quite that high, I'm pretty sure he's gone there for the money.
I think Levy has to be admired as a decent chairman too. I have to say I sometimes wonder about Spurs transfer dealings as I rate those players they're letting go ie Huddlestone, Parker, Defoe (potentially), Modric etc to replace them with somewhat untested players like Holtby. But he's been shrewd here, although taken a bit of a gamble, as he's let AVB spend the money before they get it in - meaning that they don't get ripped off just cos they have the money like Liverpool did with Carrol. If Bale's going then he's done the bets thing here by letting AVB get his targets before everyone realises that they're loaded. Not sure how all of these players will fit in, to be honest and kind of thought they're squad needed tweaking as opposed to these wholesale changes, but fair play to them - AMBITIOUS... going to be interesting...
Pretty sure Spurs aren't spending money they don't have. They've got a lot, and won't yet have dug into any anticipated Bale money imo. They may be doing that with their latest double swoop, but only just. They make ****loads from player sales for a start.
