The Reds are battling with Tottenham for the services of the £30million-rated Brazilian winger. Both clubs have enjoyed positive talks with the Russian outfit over a fee and Willian, who has his heart set on a switch to the Premier League, is mulling over his options. Some reports have suggested that the Londoners' ability to offer European football this season has helped give them the edge in discussions. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas also knows the 25-year-old personally having come close to signing him twice before. However, Liverpool have been encouraged by their talks with the player's representatives and manager Brendan Rodgers is hoping Willian will accept the chance to line up alongside fellow countrymen Lucas Leiva and Philippe Coutinho. Liverpool are expected to confirm the signing of Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan from Valencia today. The French left-back passed his medical yesterday.
I think European football and the fact that AVB knows Willian pretty well (as well speaking the same language) will play a big part in his decision
http://m.101greatgoals.com/blog/russian-reports-spurs-have-beaten-liverpool-to-willian-signing-medical-imminent/ Russian journalist Nobel Arustamyan reports this Tuesday morning that Tottenham have beaten Liverpool to the signing of Brazilian midfielder Willian. Arustamyan is considered a reliable source on account of the fact he is the deputy editor in chief of Radio Sport in Russia and a commentator on Russia’s ‘NTV Plus and a regular host on Anzhi’s radio channel. Tottenham have reportedly reached agreement with Anzhi for Willian and the probability of a transfer is “now very high,” according to Arustamyan. Russian website Sports.ru also confirm the suggestion, adding that a medical examination at Spurs is imminent with personal terms also set to be discussed. Liverpool were thought to be the front runners for Willian until Spurs moved in early this week. Brendan Rodgers’ side are understood to have offered Anzhi 30 million euros plus a 50% sell-on clause for Willian. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas spoke about Willian yesterday, see video below. Followed by a scouting video of the Brazilian playmaker.
