Same team. Not interested at all in Clyne or Yoshida coming into the starting lineup. We just kept a clean sheet away from home.
For our game v Barnsley I think we should take the opportunity to experiment. 1-2-7 Davis Lovren Wanyama/Schneiderlin Lambert/Osvaldo/J-Rod/Ramirez/Mayuka/Lallana/Guly This management thing is easy isn’t it.
This side is atrocious. You've made 2 changes in a defence that just kept a clean sheet away from home and 4 changes to a team that's just won away from home. You've got players out of position. Osvaldo and Lambert should be the other way round if you want to play them both. The bench is wrong. You forgot about two players that started the last game and have left 3 starters out the squad initially. Dreadful idea.
OK maybe we shouldn't change last weeks winning team but I'm not sure you can call that side atrocious
Or instead of taking Tom's team to pieces you could politely offer an alternative side with your reasoning for doing so?
It' a bit harsh. Clyne is first choice right back, Yoshida is presumably first choice center back. Lallana and Rodriguez haven't shown enough against WBA that we should dread their omission. And Lambert is more than capable of playing in a deeper role, he played deeper a lot on the back end of last season. I agree we shouldn't make wholesale changes on the back of an away win, but there nothing wrong with the team.
I'd go for exactly the same team that faced West Brom, they played well together. Possibly Osvaldo on the bench, if he's ready.
Boruc, Clyne, Fonte, lovren, Shaw, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Prowse, Rodriguez, Lambert Subs: Davis K, Chambers, Yoshida, Ramirez, Osvaldo, Cork Gutted that I can't find a place for Guly and Puncheon. Sadly we are now in a position where it is harder to keep everyone happy. I take on board what others have sasdi about not changing a winning side but you really don't want to over expose Chambers so if Clyne is fully fit and impressing in training, put him in. I think Osvaldo will come on the second half but hopefully not a straight swap for Lambert. think they will be awesome on the pitch at the same time. Luckily we have the Capital One Cup to give Cork, Jos, Yoshida, Guly, Punch, Davis S, Gazza, Mayuka, Fox and Isgrove a run out. I'm sure they will all featuire in the Premiership at some point this season.
Southampton have amazing taste in players - so good to be safe in the knowledge we're not out there trying to pick up a Defoe or a Deeney. And not having to worry about these journeymen who are out there looking for a final contract.
Martin Jol "Sunderland put so many players up front - they had four attacking players. We didn't do well at times. We have to try to control the midfield - we didn't do that in the first half and couldn't keep the ball. Against an energetic Sunderland team"
He doesn't mean 4 forwards......4-2-3-1 has 4 attackers...The 3 behind the striker are attackers...When they push up you can have 4 players very high at the same time like when we play it.. No team is playing 4 forwards or four upfront. You will get raped if you play an actual 4-2-4 or 3-3-4. Almost every side plays a variation of 5 in midfield in the league. Whoscored has them down as 4-4-1-1 but it was really 4-2-3-1. 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1 are the same shape.
OK maybe I should have been a bit clearer. Fact is though if they are gung ho aagainst us I'm confident we will outscore them!
Have just watched this afternoons events and am excited about seeing Dani in action. If not selected at the start against Sunderland do you think people will be disappointed? I assume he'll be presented to fans before kick off.
Very nice indeed, -DTLW. I'm interested in your Gazzaniga choice. I'm not arguing with it in the slightest, because I think the lad is more than capable. But I'd have Fonte instead of Hooiveld. Perhaps even starting, with Maya on the bench. What a very nice headache this is becoming.
I'm most interested to see how Schneiderlin plays alongside Wanyama. I thought that Wanyama was so imposing against West Brom that Schneiderlin looked a little subdued by comparison. Deep down I just want to see Cork playing. It seems crazy that we are leaving out our second best player of last year!
They are the two key words. It's a new season, and there are three new players. Jack now has direct competition. Wanyama is a proper rival for the position and at current I would leave VW there and Cork can be benched until needed.
