Thanks I'll do that. Re the 10,000 sale princess, I think you will find it was not sold. Could be I don't understand the sales results at the Deauville Sales or maybe sold at another sale. Didn't see any details of the 4,000.

Cheers Princess. He has had 50 foals. 49 in 2012 and 1 in 2013. Is that a bit strange, only 1 this year?

Most people don't bother with their registrations until later in the year. In fact I've known breeders in France not bother to register their foals until just before the yearling sales! I imagine if a lot of them are in the hands of Jump breeders they may not even bother registering them until they are 2 years old. I don't think there are any penalties for late registrations in France, unlike here.

I double checked, the £4000 sale was at Tattersalls December Foal Sale last year.

Cheers Princess. That one was a pretty hefty net loss then. I see a lot went for 800 Gns (inc one by Echo of Light, a Dubai Millennium colt out of a Sadler's Wells mare). <yikes>

Thread for Arqana Yearling Sale here.

I will put up separate threads for each of the following Yearling Sales when I get a chance:

Doncaster Premier Sale - 27-28 August
Doncaster St Leger Sale - 13 September
Tattersalls Ireland September Sale - 24-25 September
Goffs Orby Sale - 1-3 October
    Tattersalls October Book 1 - 8-11 October
    Tattersalls October Book 2 - 14-17 October
    Tattersalls October Book 3 - 18 October

There are also rumours of a Book 4 sale at Tattersalls, though I've not seen entries for this sale yet.

I haven't been away, but had a week off work doing things around the house. Been pretty busy in work so haven't had a chance to get on here much.

Oaks winner DANCING RAIN will be offered for sale at the Tattersalls December Mare Sales this year. Tested in foal to FRANKEL on a 2nd March covering (which should produce an early-February foal), she is the first Epsom Oaks winner to be sold at public auction carrying her first foal in over 50 years.

    Name your price!

I do wonder if she will make it as far as the sale. It is a clever bit of advertising on the part of the owners to let the world know the mare is for sale several months before the catalogue is even released (due out end of October). She may end up being snapped up by one of the wealthy operations in a private sale.

Plenty of nice two year olds to watch out for today, including a full brother to MAKFI in the 2.20 at Newbury - ZERFAAL - and a Sea the Stars colt out of a mare from the family of VIRGINIA WATERS in the 6.30 at Newmarket - MUNJAZ. Both run in the Shadwell colours.

I'm away from the office all of next week so may not get on here much. Keep the questions coming and I'll answer as and when I can.

why do some horses love 'travelling ' many miles in a box to a far off racecourse , win their race then proceed to slump at courses with much less travelling-- would it be good to know which love that sort of thing and those that did not-- surely cramped in a box for many hours must affect a horse--although maybe not in a bad way !

Tattersalls Ireland September Sale thread here

I wont be putting up a thread for the Doncaster St Leger Sale as it is only 1 day and I am still waiting for my Goffs catalogues to arrive.

I will put up a thread for Tattersalls October 1 later today.

Sorry or the delay rudebwoy. Have moved your question to this thread and bumped it to see if any other views on this. Might be worth checking the competition, whether the horse ran above or below form at the respective tracks, the characteristics of the courses, going, distance, draw (if relevant), jockey, odds, unlucky in running etc. (ie the distance travelled may not be the most relevant factor).

Rudebwoy, the simple answer is there is no way of knowing for sure if it is the travelling that has a positive effect. If trainers announced that a horse loved travelling and it then ran a bad race everyone would blame the trainer for giving bad information.

Horses can go off travelling too. Singspiel was a great globe trotter as a racehorse but once at stud they tried to shuttle him to Australia and he became so ill he almost died. They never travelled him again after that.
