Nick Thompson , on talksport this morning ... he said a number of companies that use the tiger logo/name have been in touch with the club this last week ... he also re iterated that when they talk about the football team it will remain Hull City .. its purely the business side of the club that will be branded the hull city tigers or hull tigers depending on locality ... As he said , its sometimes hard for fans to get their heads around the change and why but it has been done with the best business interests of the club at heart ... and then re iterated that when you see hull city on fixtures, results etc , it will remain Hull City as it has done through our history
Clear as mud then. Is there a map we can access which shows the various zones / areas and what name applies? Say for instance we go to Albufeira again next year....for me it's Hull City playing as I'm a local, but we are playing abroad so does the name change once we get out of British airspace and territorial waters to Hull Tigers? And sorry yo have to ask the question again, but why does it say Hull Tigers at the training ground? Is it a business academy there or club admin centre?
As was said , its the football team playing so It's Hull City playing .. he is right .. fans simply aren't grasping this at all ...
Too ****ing right we're not. And if we're not , how will the rest of the world grasp it as they basically don't care? If the name's not changing, why announce it is in the Hull Daily Mail in a big interview? The national and international media are reporting we are changing our name, they are not reporting we are giving ourselves multiple names.
The problem here is Mr Allam who has been on TV talking about wanting to change the name and I and lots of other people were absolutely sure he wanted to drop the AFC and also drop the City bit for the TEAM as well as the BRAND. Sorry I am a dim wit but still do not get all of this. I can't get my head around our football team being a BRAND. Get the impression that Mr Allam is a PR disaster and Nick Thompson is trying to do some damage limitation.
He has shown to be either a liar or someone who is not privy to the Allams' plans. An untenable position.
Neither is the owner, who some are saying knows best. Anyone looking to buy in to the Tigers name would do so anyway if it's presented properly. As it is, if they're buying into a company name associated with Hull City AFC, what exactly are they buying into? I suspect Mr Allam is waking up to the football world and realising just how much of a different world it is from other businesses. My guess is the strength and extent of the reaction is causing the club to look for ways of putting this ridiculous idea on the back burner and try to find ways of correcting the disrespect he's shown to our club.
This story is 3 or 4 weeks old so not sure if it's been mentioned in this debate before, but I'm posting it anyway. Manchester United are hoping to change their club badge by restoring the words âFootball Clubâ 15 years after removing it in a hope of dispelling the belief that the Glazer family are only interested in business rather than their rich history. Owner Joel Glazer is behind the plans to alter the crest which was last redesigned in 1998, when âFootball Clubâ was removed from the original badge... ...âI didnât like that change of badge,â said Woodward. âJoel didnât like that change. We will look at that and have a think about that. We are a football club, not a business. âI described it to our staff that we are a 135-year-old club and thatâs what you have to remember,â continued Woodward. âWe are a football club, a club with a capital C. âStrapped to that is a commercial business thatâs going to fund a lot of the player purchases going forward here and we have to be supportive of both. âWeâve got to make sure they co-exist together but donât impact each other and thatâs where we are trying to balance it.â www.independent.co.uk/sport/footbal...to-dispel-glazer-business-belief-8724438.html And for agro http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...crest-saying-we-are-an-FC-not-a-business.html The final paragraph is a telling lesson for the allams, who have got it so very very wrong.
So with that in mind, why did the club have to write to Sky last week to tell them to stop referring to us as 'Hull City Tigers' in their stories, and why did the BBC still call us it earlier today? You can't blame them for using the name after Allam's interviews saying he wants to use that name. Media sources don't know what to call us and people don't know what is going on, even at the club. It's the latter, but as that's exactly what Papa wants, he's not going to sack him for it. I think most people at the club would love that, but Papa won't not follow through with this now. The fact it's generated criticism will make him want to do it more.a
The users of this forum are mostly Hull City fans. Some seem to know the subject they are discussing, many don't. Some will have a small amount of influence, most will have none. That said, this board is read by a wide number of industry professional's and insiders who do know what they are talking about and do have influence.
I've had an email from Nick Thompson: Dear Peter Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write to us, detailing your views in respect of the issue of our Club’s name. As we have said previously, there are two distinct entities; the business and the team. The business was refreshed in the spring of this year and now operates as Hull City Tigers. The team, and all playing matters, will continue to operate as it always has done; we are Hull City. For me personally, "City" is the key element that links the traditions of our Club with a future that has been shaped over the past two and a half years. I am looking forward to our first home game back in the Premier League on Saturday against Norwich. I believe we have had a great summer which now sees us well equipped for the season ahead; a season where we will do our utmost to see Hull City retain Premier League status. We have strengthened towards that ultimate aim this week, with the signings of Tom Huddlestone on a permanent transfer and Jake Livermore on loan, and the coming season promises to be a special one for everybody associated with the Club. If there has been any lack of clarity in our communication that has caused confusion, then I am sorry, and I am happy to clarify that our playing identity remains Hull City, and will continue to do so. Yours sincerely Nick Thompson, Managing Director
The email makes me happier, obviously. Until the Allam's and Nick Thompson appear together and give a categoric statement there is always going to be concern.
Well done for sharing that Peter. The club's position does not seem to have shifted. The problem may be that people have not understand the club's position.
I understood it perfectly (as did many, many others) - the original statements (from NT) were that Hull City Tigers Ltd. was only for the business side of things. Then - when there were developments (the training ground gates; Sagbo's signing announcement) - things became doubtful. Papa Allam stated that he wanted the club/team to be named 'Hull Tigers', but now we have NT stating that the football team will always be Hull City AFC. It looks like there has been a stepping-back from the team re-naming but, until NT and AA sing from the same song-sheet, there really is no 'truth' to believe in.
So. We're Hull City AFC from a fans point of view. We're Hull City from a footballing point of view. We're Hull City Tigers if you want to invest in us. We're Hull Tigers if you want to invest but happen to be of Asian descent. We can be called whatever you want, because that's your right as a fan. Glad that's cleared that up then. Does anyone think Adam Pearson knew about this whole rebrand idea before he happened to be sacked?
A small united front of fans didn't, and still don't in some quarters, grasp it. Some of us did grasp it. Lets hope this load of bollocks can be put to bed now and we can get on with doing what we're meant to enjoy doing. Hull City supporting.
