TBF I only listened to the radio commentary today, but I said to my wife - you keep hearing the names Redmond and Bennett. I think they'll both nail their respective positions this season.
Yeah he got Match sponsor MOTM, deserved it to. Put on twitter that he felt he didn't deserve and Whits did as well. Humble lad with his feet on the ground, wasn't phased by the likes of Fellaini at all, played both wings and in the center looked really at home and attacking at all positions. His ball to Whittaker for RVW's goal is a really inspired one and sometimes he did take too many touches and get into trouble but you can forgive him with his enthusiasm, his judgement of situations will come with time. I think once Fer is in there, Snoddy providing better width for us, we are going to put some serious attacks together. There is definitely a team here.
I was very impressed with Redmond. He always wants to do something and even when he loses it he tends to chase straight back. Whits attacking game was great but he made some rather strange choices when under pressure at the back. I'm all for playing it out but sometimes you do just have to hoof it clear.
There sure is. Fellaini is certainly a beast, but I felt he was less effective the longer the game went on. Whittaker ghosting past him for his goal probably didn't help! Add Snoddy, Bass, Fer and Hooper to the mix, I'm happy with that!
I wouldn't have given Redmond MOM, to be honest, but I'm glad he got it. It'll do wonders for his confidence (although he doesn't look as if he needs much of a boost in that area). Slightly concerned about Turner's performance, although he took a while to get going last season as well, and the defence generally looked fairly solid considering Bassong was missing. Much more promising than the opening day of last season (or any of the last four seasons).
Elliott Bennett ahead of Snodgrass? That's a big call and I can't see it happening. Bennett runs a lot, but the end product is lacking. Redmond to keep Pilks is much more likely. Good to have the competition though. Nice to have the strength in the squad that missing our 'first choice' pair of wingers still allowed us to field decent players, without needing to force Hoolahan out wide.
Agree with this. Snodgrass and Redmond will be a fearsome set of wingers. Excellent to have backup and competition in Bennett and pilks. Don't want to burn Redmond out like sterling was last season but games will give him judgement and I think his skill will increase as the opposition increase in skill.
On the subject of Bennett and Redmond, I thought the combination of Bennett and Whittaker kept Baines pretty quiet, while Seamus Coleman got the better of the Redmond/Garrido combination and had an exceptional game. You could say that Redmond's contribution to our attacking play was considerably better than Bennett's, but defensively the reverse was the case, leading up to Coleman being free and unmarked to score Everton's second goal.
As well as Coleman you also had Miralles on the Everton right who was very impressive, and quietly one of their better players on the day. Even with 4-5 players missing I thought there were some very encouraging signs to develop for us.
As I type it looks like our game is going to be the only one that finished in a draw this weekend. City in tenth position in the league, I'd take that at the end of the season ! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table
Oh yeah of course, how did you get on playing the whipping boys of the prem last season? You would love to finish 10th in the prem. Do you even remember the prem? Honestly if your gonna wum at least make a proper fist of it.
I've always been a long believer in say it like it is, you may upset a few but there you go. The prem is a hard place look how the promoted teams got on this weekend. And your slating us for being happy with 10th place finish? Get here first and then we can talk about being easily pleased. Also, I would love to play your ramshackle outfit right now. We would absolutely slaughter you. Our movement and pace would embarrass you.
Sorry, been in Essex all weekend and experienced a very annoying binner. My bad. Couldn't help it. Sorry.
Does anyone else think that Garrido could maybe have done a bit more to try to prevent Colemans goal, he seemed to back off a bit. I know it was an open goal but I thought he could have made a better attempt at preventing it
having read this thread, i think it's fair to say that you see a different match if you watch a web feed to if you are actually there. you just don't see everything that is happening. some of the whinging when we went two-one down on this thread is utterly ridiculous and way over the top. i know its the only way many get to see our games and i'm in no way having a go, i'm just saying that it's difficult to get a true grip of what is happening at the game.
Certainly some positives in that performance and I think given his late return to full training and the friendlies perhaps Turner should be cut a little slack. Everton were good and we did well inspite of our depleted 1st eleven. However, Hughton still persists with his dreadful and undermining interviews. Most managers will wax lyrical about this point or that to big up his team and their confidence, or they might have a go at the officials, but the way in which he spoke I think that a number of the players will be feeling distinctly second fiddle and like they were only keeping the shirt warm for those deamed better players to come in. Each player should be made to believe that they have as much chance as any other in the squad. Now it may be true that others will come straight in and are first choice in reality and we're all looking forward to seeing Fer, Hooper and getting Snoddy back out there. But its like last season where we didn't have "the quality of the opposition" and "they are really great". How about we were really great the lads to a man played their socks off! An encouraging start but c'mon Chris lets stick to positive comments only for all the squad! (I do also realise the slight ironny of me putting out this slightly critical, some might say negative message!)
