I can see them finishing top half to be fair. Think they'll have a very solid season.

I don't doubt, but how can that kind of spending be sustainable for a club of their size? That's a fortune. Portsmouth springs to mind. And they were more successful than Southampton have been

To be fair to them, at least they didn't spend all that on Carroll.

I put down Saints as my surprise team of the season in HIAG's thread and this type of signing only reinforces my view, that they will finish top half and be in with a chance of top 8 if all goes well.

They are a very good passing side, lambert is in the form of his life and their owner is clearly ambitious yet not foolish.

It does annoy me how Polly Pocket still hasn't learnt to speak bloody English though, post match interviews are infuriating.

haha! Agreed, I had an issue with Ramos and his lack of English (attempting to learn yet for whatever reason the saints players love the manager, and thats after Adkins, so he must be speaking to them in a different language, just hope its not the language of love!

It's the TV deal. All the clubs got a windfall. £35m, conveniently, is the amount both is and saints have spent (net) and also how much extra the tv deal is worth this season

With respect, that is ignorant. We wouldn't splash the cash if we didn't have it. We have one of the wealthiest owners in the PL and is not content to be a bottom half PL team.

We are now odds on to sign Willian.

Apparently he's going to choose between us and Liverpool quite soon.

Fee rumoured to be anywhere from £25m to £30m

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...s-bid-for-Willian-from-Anzhi-Makhachkala.html

Everyone is going to go nuts if we spend this figure...where's it coming from???

Here's a theory... Forget the "rumoured" 50m budget, is that confirmed?, no, how about Joe Lewis has bankrolled any figure Levy sanctions for 1yr...paid back when Bale is sold NEXT summer...Willian and Bale...creativity solved! :D Many pants would be creamed eh!

    Or he's gone. <whistle> :(

After all that has already happened this summer, if we now went and spent £25m odd on Willian it might truly be the

Are they the feet of that bloke in the film Misery after being hobbled, and is the odour of them really creating that fog?

But again, does willian solve the creativity issue? For me, he's like lamela.

We need someone central doing what Modric did!

He's quality mate from what I've seen, and he's more of that we need, but still not quite right.

I'm after a player who is going to do what Modric and VDV used to do. Willian has it in him, but from what I've seen it's not what he predominantly does.

Still, it's a better option that sigurdsson IMO. There's no way he'll be able to work the hole like VDV did. Just doesn't have "it". - whatever "it" is.

    Ooooooer!

There aren't many players like vdv about, one with a good brain and the ability to pull it off, and that play in that position. Utd don't have one either, hence fabregas. Alas Chelsea have mata, city have silva and arse have cazorla. Coutinho looks like he's the one for pool too.
Other than that I can't think of one off the top of my head in the prem, which shows how rare they must be

He's a winger with lots of pace and trickery, he won't be playing in the hole. Liverpool's main plan to sign him is so Coutinho can play central rather than playing him on the flanks, I doubt we'll get him but I can at least hope.

If Spurs sign him, surely that means Bale is off?? If Bale does stay AND you sign him - you could be title contenders.
