Which did you enjoy more? JPT final at Wembley or v Walsall at St Mary's? For me a very close run thing...seeing my team of 34 years win at Wembley or my second promotion (I was very young in 78!) I actually think the atmosphere in St Mary's wins it though!
promotion by a mile no disrespect to the jpt, but it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, promotion showed real progress
JPT for me. I celebrated promotion at the Plymouth game, so Wembley vs Walsall is no contest. Wembley all the way.
Wembley was just before my son's 9th birthday and Saints gave him the best day ever! We then had a fabulous day at St Mary's for the Walsall game. Loved them both. I'll let him tell me that both were insignificant in 3-5 years time when we are a top Prem team! Having said that his first ever away game as v wolves in 2007 and we won 6-0, so he thinks all games should be like that.
Wasn't at the Walsall game. but the scenes and the feelings about promotion were undescribable. Wembley was wonderful, but Walsall snatches it.
Both brilliant. Atmosphere in the Bobby Moore pub before the JPT will live long, on the pitch after Walsall great passion, showed how many are on the bus!
JPT final for me. Walsall was a bit of a damp squib to be honest, all the celebrating was done at Plymouth. But to win at Wembley was something special. Who knows, it might not happen again for another 30 odd years or more.
Both great, but the JPT was winning something we could have lost. Also, it was the first tangible success after many years of decline. Promotion was more important, but Wembley was a special day and just edges it,
Wallsall game was great but the party after was fantastic. Every pub in the city was buzzing after the game and the pitch invasion was fun! Had been away to Orient, Brighton and Brentford beforehand so it was great to finally see it all sorted... Enjoyed the JPT final it was great seeing Saints at Wembley but it did feel a bit false. I mean at the end of the day it was only the JPT and promotion was far more important. Of course it could be argued that the JPT cost us promotion last season? Even at the end of the game at Wembley, had someone asked me if i could swap it for promotion then i would have easily have taken it!
winning at Wembley wasn't false....50,000 Saints fans and a 9 year old boy jumping up and down next to me, didn't think so either!
It wasn't just a trophy, it was a change in fortunes, one we got to share with Markus. I'm with the nine year old kid, jumping up & down. Walsall was great, but we won promotion the previous game.
JPT for me cos I was there and I took my little brother (aged 40) who had never seen Saints at Wembley before. Promotion was sorted prior to Walsall
As much as the JPT was a great day out the promotion party lasted longer. Also the fact that we had achieved something big in terms of sucess is something pretty new to most of us younger Saints fans!
JPT. I loved the Walsall game but it was Wembley - whether or not it mattered in the grand old scheme of things, Wembley is something else, and though it may not be the most prestigious trophy in the world, it was a milestone that marked the sign of better days to come for Southampton football club, for which he have Markus to thank.
Being able to celebrate with another 49,999 Saints fans was an honour. I'm nearer 39 and couldn't stop jumping around and losing my voice!
The JPT win was the best. It proved things had changed for the better, and everyone knew that NC and MLs 5 year plan was on track. Also seeing ML at the end showed us that our new owner was also a true fan, and not some hedge fund manager looking for a quick return!
At the time the JPT mattered more because it gave us such great hope for the future. It also helped give our players a winning mentality. Enough I feel that we would have won if needed in the play-offs. Now it has to be the knowledge that we had been promoted and phase one had been completed on schedule. The sheer joy felt by so many at Wembley was in my book surpassed the moment I saw our chairman hand the trophy to his son as we celebrated promotion.
