Reading through the "top three managers" thread, and thinking about the unnecessary grief Brown gets on a daily basis here, it made me think "Why are Hull City fans such ungrateful ****s?" Other examples being the abuse Ash got on his return with PNE, and the absolutely pathetic attendance for Dawson's testimonial last week. Other clubs revere their legends, whereas we seem to turn on people the second they walk out the door. And realistically, how quick will people turn on Bruce if we're not challenging for Europe in our second season?
Brownie is god, really hopes he takes Southend up. Ash and Daws are heroes. Not all of us are that way.
This is true. Even if someone is a twat when they return I'll still applaud them at the start. I respect any player or manager who is associated with us no matter how bad they were. I understand when people protest at managers when they're not doing well but I don't want it to affect the team, but it's difficult being a loan voice when all they can hear is the opposite.
Ash and Daws are legends. Brown, I'm sure wasn't 100% responsible for our promotion, or our blistering start to life in the PL. Why did he not manage any level of success before us, or after us? Answer, without Allardyce he's useless. Some people have a life away from football in the close season.
Just under 8000, considering tickets were only a tenner and the purpose of the game was to say thanks to a City legend its pathetic.
About the norm for a PSF. I don't think Windass got many more for his game v Aberdeen. The issue with PSF games during the summer is a lot of people with Children who are at school take holidays in August.
Regardless of people's views on Phil Brown, the majority of the City fans realise that he achieved something great and unthinkable (at the time) for Hull City. We had literally just survived relegation with him, he brought Deano back, brought Barmby back in from the Wilderness after Phil Parkinson decided Barmby shouldn't play at all and took us to the Premier League for the first time in our history against all the odds. Put it this way, he kept us up and TWS's expense, brought back a local legend, achieved Promotion to the Premier League and then kept us up there. I don't really understand why there's so much hate towards him? He obviously made mistakes whilst Managing us in the Premier League but even Sir Alex Ferguson made mistakes from time to time, nobody's flawless. If it wasn't for what happened under Phil Brown, we probably wouldn't be ready for a 3rd Premier League Season right now because we'd still be a lower half/midtable Championship side.
If it was just Hull City vs. Real Betis I wouldn't be criticising. It was Andy Dawson's Testimonial though, even if we were playing Brentford the stadium should have been packed out. Same goes for Deano, that was also a sad indication of the ungratefulness of Hull City fans.
See edit. I assume you don't have children? Many fans I assume are taking holidays, particularly those with Children at School.
Lets not forget when Brown took over we were nearly going down, Brian Horton then joined (who i thought was a very good manager first time at Hull City) and together they did a brilliant job. Lets not forget who ever is in charge at Hull City its going to be a very difficult job keeping us in the premier league. Hopefully we seem to have brought in a decent group of players for this season but so as everyone else, take next weeks opponents Norwich who could be in our mini league for staying up they have spent 14 million on two forwards
The thing that makes it really bad for me is that for a friendly against Liverpool in 2011 we got 23,000. I don't buy the holidays thing either. People said that last season when the attendance against Brighton was so small, but it stayed that way throughout the season until we were on the verge of promotion.
I still believe we'd of stayed up if Brown had stayed in charge until the season's end. Once the decision was made to keep him past January they should of seen it through. Burnley home, Portsmouth away, two games I think we'd of won with Brown.
If the club wanted us fans to show our gratitude to Andy, they should have made admission free! not everyone can afford the extortionate prices and I think most stay away out of protest at this.
If you look at his record before he was sacked, we only lost something like 3 home games and they were against Man U, Tottenham and Arsenal. As soon as Dowie came in we had a few easier home games and lost them all. We could well have won those under PB.
I was a bit disappointed with the crowd at the Dawson match but all his other Testimonial events have been very well supported. Not sure why more people were not there though. As for players coming back. Just seen Altidore on MOTD and I am sure he will get a welcome as everyone associated with the club has. The Ash Preston game has been well documented on here before. I for one was nearly in tears seeing him run out for another team, just wasn't right. That whole situation was totally wrong but I am sure the majority of Hull fans gave him a welcome and have since been supportive of him when seeing him around the town. Phil Brown, however it ended will always be looked upon with affection by me just for the fact he was a unique character and is associated with some very good performances in our first year in the Prem. He is kind of a legend in his own right just for being the tanman that he is. I don't believe people will be quick to turn on Bruce as I am confident he will keep us up and I wouldn't be so unrealistic as to expect Europe next season anyway.
The money wasn't going to the club it was for Dawson and for charity and it was only a tenner or £5 for concessions. Your attitude proves TWF's point.
