We were in a worse position having just lost 8-2 to United and looking at 2 days left of the TW. Now THAT was bad.
I'm quite sure if we had United away coming up, an 8-2 wouldn't be out of the question, , this time we were lucky it was Villa at home, and still lost 3-1. Much of this season already resembles that of the the start of the 2012 campaign, very thin squad depth, lack of summer action (this summer has been even worst in terms of signings than the 2012), multiple injuries-suspensions that add more woe to the already lack of squad depth. Very sad, after all that optimism at the start of the summer-end of last season. We're back to the old same old Arsenal.
All we are lacking this time is squad depth, back then even our first team was Championship standard. And we have cash I think. And we have more time to get players in! Positives. I get your point though.
Terrible, terrible game. Arsenal looked sharp with their first goal. And looked like they were going to score. But the penalty decision (right one at that) took a lot out of them. Gotta say it was weird the ref (who's an absolute clueless mong) played an advantage for a penalty. Wtf? Never ever heard if that. Regardless, the ref completely gifted Villa that game. Plain and simple. Will Wenger spend money now? Absolutely fuc'king not. It's pathetic. A unique problem at Arsenal. We have money, but have problems spending it. That's supposed to be the easy part.
Shearer thinks the ref made the right calls. Yet again proving why he has no right to be a pundit. Dumb as a stump
I thought it was a bad call, then I listened to shearer's point and he's right. Did you not see? Is clear that his trailing left takes him out before his front leg touches the ball
Sorry, but it was a bad call. The ref needs to be absolutely sure it's a pen to give it and he ****ed it big style It cost us the game.
This fan speaking the truth a week before today, fans have been saying this for a while in fact, why the **** is it that the fans are talking sense, seeing the problems, and the board and the manager do **** all about it, and the fans' worries come into reality.
I don't think you can blame the ref, from the angle he had, you couldn't see the contact on the ball. the linesman on that side should have been the one to tell him there was contact on the ball (ignore shearers point as the time difference between the 2 points of contact as was so minimal that the human eye wouldn't be able to see that in real time). 2nd yellow was very harsh, didn't think he actually made contact with him, and then Vlaar took Rosicky out when already on a yellow so should have been off for very similar offence.
Paraphrasing: "Who'll want to come to us? A true sportsman wants to win" A point I made earlier today about no early signings. When you sign a few solid players in positions you need you send a message to potential world class strikers you are after. Conversely if you say you have loads to spend, and go on signing **** all by the time the season starts, what message are you sending? Be honest, how can a player joining Arsenal today be considered to be ambitious and a "winner", after the way the club have handled the transfer window? Only chance of us getting a really ambitious player expecting to win things with is if they are lifelong Arsenal fan following their dream. Otherwise we're going to sign someone who comes in there for the wages, or a brief exposition to the CL with the view of stepping up at the first chance they get.
I think the incentive would have to be that by signing a top quality player, he could make the difference.
He could make the difference with a capable team. I said "sign a few solid players" not world-beaters, as a precursor. You don't see an already proven world class striker joining, say, Swansea to challenge himself and prove he alone can make the difference.
