wonder what replies would be like if the thread was put on the mags board, and asked about us?
Similar stuff to what a lot of this boards better posters have put. I don't particularly like Sunderland as a club, and I'm not wild on the place in all honesty, though I've only been a few times and haven't really given it a proper chance. One thing I don't do is say that all Mackems are "****s" or "bellends" or "unwashed scumbags" or whatever. Only a complete ****ing idiot would be able to think that about someone based purely on which football club they support. People say it's part of the "banter". No it's not. There's banter, and then there's being a complete ****ing moron. I don't normally take too well to people that genuinely hate the other lot with a passion, it's pathetic if you ask me.
I admire the fans for sticking with the club through its really ****ty days, and sort of half admire the ability to win games the ugly way, and battling for 1 - 0 wins against the big sides.
I don't hate Sunderland, and sometimes I don't mind them really. There are times when I feel much more negativity towards other teams - like Liverpool and Stoke. Apart from derby days and the occasional linking of the same players, we don't really get in each others way.
I ****ing hate the city though - sorry guys. It has nothing to do with my bias in football, but I can't stand the place. I even went out last night in Newcastle and had an amazing time in some classy places. There's no way on earth I would have been able to emulate that in Sunderland. That's just one example though. Really isn't my cup of tea.
Its funny how people see things. I dont live in Newcastle or Sunderland but know both fairly well and if I had to move to either, remembering my age and likes, my first choice would be Seaburn because I love the sea, dont like big so would be fine for me.
I could live around sea road Fulwell, love the shops and hate the Metro type of place.
Could live around Gosforth but would hate City Ctr, to big and not a lot of the Newcastle area does it for me.
The one thing I dont like is the **** hole bit because one persons **** hole is someone elses home, very rude and disrespectful to me.
Bang on. An open minded and tolerant sentiment.
To be honest, after living in Brussels, Birmingham and London most of my life I find both cities too small and boring for me to ever live there, I do however love visiting both.
On the clubs my father (not Syd, my other father) taught me to try to think like Sir Bobby. He just loved the North East. Not black and white, not red and white nor smoggy red. He was red black and white through and through.
For that reason while I am prone to giving and taking stick to and from the mags, they're the closest to us both geographically which has led to similarities in terms of personality, accent, civic pride and identity amongst other things. I adore Sunderland and I have a massive amount of respect and affection for Newcastle.
Can't get my head around Middlesbrough, Bartons Tash, Joker or Geordie Boot boy.
I didn't say he was. I said he was a North East fan. Anyone who knows anything about Bobby Robson knows that.
