Probably the right time to play Arsenal with what's going on there.

I'm just glad I can watch the opening day games on MOTD tonight, last season I was too down on the result to watch it lol

I wish there was a way to get the quality out of hoolahan that he has more often. He's just so bloody useless when he stops being able to maintain possession, and string a simple pass together.

I thought it was a great game, actually. There was more entertainment in any five minutes of that match than there was in the whole of the home games against Fulham, Newcastle, Southampton, ...

Agree entirely. I think it fair to say I'm more optimistic this year than I was after the first game last year.

Truly excited also about the players yet to take part. <ok>

Well that's 71 posts deleted, and look - a football discussion!

Apologies to anyone who's lost posts as 'collateral damage', I've tried to leave anything that talked about football.

Given that City had 5 players out, I thought it was a fantastic game (anybody bored by that?),

I was never board (although frustrated the stream was so poor in the 1st half) but I did not think we would get anything out of the game, sitting as deep as we did for most of the game. Yes, we were missing a number of players but if we are going to use that as a reason, then we also have to concede that more building work is required to get a better balance perhaps.

It was a good game to watch today, Redmond was very impressive, as was Whittaker. Howson struggled in the midfield and I think we definitely improved when Tettey came on and Howson got moved further forwards. RvW looks a very good player, though we didn't get the ball to him nearly enough. Wes was his usual frustrating self.

On the whole it was a hard game and a draw is probably the right result. In places we had some lovely football, hopefully with a fully fit Bass, and Snoddy and Fer coming into our midfield, we'll be a bit tighter and even better going forward.

I think the real test is how we play against the 'lesser' teams. We really have to get at least ten wins against them this season because we are not likely to beat MU, MC, Arsenal and Everton again. I was encouraged by today's performance, but the real test is can we beat teams like West Ham and Palace at home.

Good game today, guessing snoddy was out through a knock at the England game? We played some okay stuff and you can see the evolution of the team. Don't look at the stats all day people it doesn't get you anywhere. Redmond is going to be an absolute peach he had an awesome game. Vision in the pass to Whittaker (who also played well) was good which lead to rvws goal. Entertaining game, scope for improvement.

Hughton said Snodders only pulled out today so it must have been in training

    Totally agree VC.

I was at the game and very hopeful for the coming season, when you consider who was missing.

I'm pleased CH mentioned Snoddy, I saw a very unsettling tweet on twitter that the club had accepted a bid for him! With CH saying only yesterday that there were no injuries to returning international players, it sort of added a bit of credence to it!

Well, Whittaker had an excellent run for his goal today and played very well at RB, will be an excellent duel between him and RM I feel this year. RVW's goal is why we've bought him. He's got that class to get in that area and I'm so glad he's off the mark at least. A lot of fans were ready to start slating him.

I think considering Evertons strengths, and they are a strong team no doubt, we did well and created some stuff for ourselves. The majority of feedback has been generally positive so I'm happy. We can definitely use this as a base and Snodgrass is a sore miss in terms of delivery and attacking aggression.

The one thing I will take out of todays match is Redmond. The lad is class and clearly wants to impress, he looks right at home in the premier league and although he ran into a few situations, where options were available, you can forgive him that when he is being as positive as he is. Very impressed, more than deserved his MOTM today.

Did he get MOM? That's great for the lad. A raw talent who will improve as the season goes on.

Whittaker was excellent, RM is pretty good at going forward too, so some nice competition there.

With some real talent yet to appear, the season is looking as exciting as I can remember.
