Thai, I've been at the County Ground watching the England Lions v Australia, but more importantly, the Steelbacks are in the final of the FL20 finals at Egdbaston, should be a stream available, it's a cricket weekend for me and the rest of Northampton!
What amazes me about that comment DH is that you thought it needed saying, or that there might be anyone who hasn't quite realised it yet. What on earth do people think we are if not a work in progress? The finished Hughton article? (I suppose carrabuh might believe that, but would anyone else?)
A draw is a very good result on second thoughts given our missing players. Quite encouraging, although still no explanation on Snodgrass's absence - let's hope it's just a niggle, he did come off surprisingly early in the intrenational
I think the Co-Commentator made a decent point - with the amount of players out today we had to be a little more cautious (even more so than usual) and I think a point was a decent result.
I don't think Johnson is match fit yet, and I thought Garrido actually got more than he did towards the end of last season. Wes has always been a frustrating player, great one game, a liability the next, but at the moment he's the only spark of creativity in the middle of the park, something I'd like us to remedy in the next fortnight. As to RvW, I agree we're not getting the most out of him just yet, but I think it'll come, and I already think he's probably the best forward I've seen at the club during my life-time. I think that's all he's really likely to be, would like to know what was wrong with Snodgrass for him to miss out completely. I didn't think his set-pieces were all that bad though, just not quite Snoddy's class.
OK, I said I was just going to lurk in future, but I can't resist. I need rehab! Am I the only person who didn't think it was that bad? Everton are a good side and I think we'll find that out over the season. Plus it looks like they're no longer going to play for a draw like they did under Moyes, but go for the win. I thought it was a very good game, much better than almost any game we were involved in last season, and a draw was a fair result. OK, Everton had a lot of the play and a lot of shots, but most of them were off target. The rebound for Whittaker's goal was lucky, I suppose, but hitting the post and not going in would have been unlucky, and he still had to remain cool on the rebound because the angle was tight. Carrabuh won't like me saying this, but I thought E Bennett had quite a good game. The only player I didn't feel did particularly well was Turner. But I feel I saw enough there to make me think we might be clear of the strugglers this season.
No, you're right. It was ok. Everton were class, Fellaini unstoppable. We didn't lump it up field, but there were a few too many balls over the top easily read by Everton. Given players missing it was actually very encouraging.
Agree with you entirely vietnam. Turner was maybe a bit below par, but he was facing a potent attack and they were quick to hustle and harry.
VC - when I looked at their team sheet, my initial reaction was, oh ****! It's no different to last season but for some reason sent a shiver down my spine today. From the first whistle, they were on the front foot and looked decent for 94 minutes. That is what we need to aim for
I also thought RVW was unlucky on the offside. The replay on TV suggested THE FEET were level, even if the rest of RVW's body was ahead (because he has great movement). I felt we deserved the draw, honestly.
Yup, loyal supporter, but I do have interests in other sports...I guess that I've been to Portman Rd more times in the last few years than you have been to the Carrot Patch?
Hughton saying Snodgrass felt a problem in the groin. Hope it doesn't keep him out for too long because I really think we're a better team with him in it.
I don't think we were lucky. I genuinely believe we deserved the point. (And as Beefy would be the first to point out, I am usually a negative lily-livered cheese-eating surrender monkey.)
On the bright side - Arsenal were undone by the referee and linesmen today (apparently) - now they know how it feels
