Ain't you proud, for the city, that Hull FC have got to Wembley v Wigan? You don't have to be a RL fan for that - I'm not.
I remember once I was at on a train in King's Cross going to see City and there were hoards of Hull rugby fans getting off the train from Hull on their way to Wembley.
Not really... It's just a cup competition when all is said and done competed for with a lot of other mostly northern teams.
Mixed feelings. Any form of success or excellence must be good for our city- HOWEVER it will strengthen the support for a sports club that is our rival in Hull, competing for sponsors, affection and people's money. In the so-called SuperLeague of 12(?) teams, you're almost in the quarter finals before it starts. Imagine an FA cup with only 12 professional clubs in it, the rest being amateurs and part timers. It's hardly of the magnitude of City getting to the final stages is it?
Sunday's clash against Chelsea will be broadcast to 216 countries and get an estimated worldwide viewing audience of 160 million. The Challenge Cup final will get an estimated viewing audience estimated to be 1% of this. (1.6 Million).
I didn't say it was. RL is a tiny sport compared to Association Football (or even Rugby Union). But the point I was making is that every little helps - if it can make more people wake up and notice Hull.
Papa Allam did a fine job of making people notice Hull two weeks ago, Steve Bruce will do this again on Sunday when we upset Jose's homecoming.
But will make RL and Hull FC popular , which for me does greater harm than the good of their getting to Wembley. What we need is a top class local comedian and two or three PROPER talented local musicians/artistes to make it big.
You can tell that sky will be wumming this season. That bint from Soccer AM just said "...and on Sunday Chelsea will play Hull Tigers".
I can't see it, really. If City go on improving, Hull/Rovers will drop by the wayside, surely? Now that is something the city could do with. And hopefully they won't disown their origins if they achieve fame.
Wigan seem to have done ok with a top football and rugby side. I've nothing against Rugby, it just doesn't interest me.
This thing has gone on for far too long now....Anyone with half a brain can see that Blunderside and the Fail are trying to stoke the fires and create division within ranks of City fans and between City and the City Council. This is in order to sell content. Yes I accept that there are many fans who are against it and yes I can see their POV. I can also see that there are some fans who are for it and see their POV... But its time to move on and concentrate on the action on the pitch.
It's only just begun I'm afraid. Hull are still living down their 'Sharks' and 'Gateshead Thunder' incarnations. Opposing fans don't forget. What a massive stick Dr Allam has handed them to beat us with it.
And you think this line of reasoning hasn't crashed and burned on every other thread so far? I can hear Peter's keyboard tapping away already "So.... could you explain why a silly name change will bring in additional revenue?" etc etc
IF Dr Allam has a spat with Brady/Geraghty it is of no interest to anyone outside the HU postcode. If Dr Allam renames us to spite Brady/Geraghty, it is of interest to the whole football planet it seems. It won't go away or die down.
I admire your tenacity. Your more than entitled to your views, but frankly I can't see any protest going much further. Once the football kicks off, and the Fail and B/side lose interest it will wither on the vine. Like a lot of these things. You can always vote with your feet, but that's your choice bro.
Wow, I wondered what I was going to do with those tickets on my desk! I am not of the opinion that I can only deal with one thing at a time. I think most people are the same.
That might be how you see things but I am sure plenty see it differently. Why should any supporter vote with their feet? I won't be buying merchandise but I will still attend matches. It looks like you have very little imagination about what can still be done.
