No he didn't, but he didn't need to say anything at all. If the agenda was set by the presenters, he could have declined to play their game; alternatively the agenda might have been Holty's. Either way, he could just have left it at "I wasn't enjoying my football as much as before and felt I needed to move on". The real point though is that Chris Hughton has nothing at all to answer for with regard to Grant Holt. CH's job is to ensure Norwich City become a fixture in the Premier League; if doing what needs to be done unsettles a particular player, so be it, the interests of the club come first. With last season's objective achieved, they got together and decided what was best for both parties, exactly as had been agreed between them in January and as you'd expect. I'm sure there's a lot more that both NCFC and GH could say. The club maintain a dignified silence; Holty should too. <ok>

All I would say is timing, just before our first game, stinks a bit. He is a legend though and I don't begrudge anything he's said.

Good luck to him, he's welcome back anytime.

I guess I must be a bit thick! I fail to see where he's acted like a sulky kid, or said anything out of order, I really don't see it!

In my humble opinion dave, its the timing rather than the content that irks most people.

If you listen to the programme the whole thing is three blokes having s bit of banter, all three of them are laughing! So the naughty man said he didn't enjoy the style of football played last season, which is pretty much the same as was said by those now complaining!

I can see where you are coming from dave, but you have to remember this is a guy that was/is an idol to you guys, a bit of class from him he could have that he wasn't enjoying his football and fans deserved better than that. But instead to criticise CH tactics just seems a little childish.

Must say that i haven't heard it, is there any links?

Why should he not say why he left. The real point is not "Chris Hughton has nothing to answer for". The real point is why Holt left because that was the question asked, he left because of the managers defensive tactics. There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying that at all and he has no reason to remain quiet about it, particularly when asked directly.

Why would you as a fan would you want Holt (or anyone) to tell you lies, I certainly don't. If you want to go down that road then perhaps we should not question any players at all. There's enough corporate, generic dull responses already in football.

    Where's the interest in that?

Holt's problem is he threw a little tantrum last summer about wanting to go back up North, I also suspect because he has a not too brilliant history with Calderwood might be another reason for him wanting to leave, I can't argue with him about the tactics but we were not born yesterday, that's not the reason he left.

Why would you say it was the managers tactics if the real reason was family related?

It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Genuinely reckon he was just trying to set the record straight more for the fans than anything, pretty sure loads of players don't get along with managers or tactics that we don't know about... Nothing lasts forever not even such a legend as holty. He obviously does care about the club as he said he wanted to be in top 5 scorers.

You really should get that clarified by pyjamas before saying such things.

Never said the tactics were the reason why he left, it was all so very coincidental the minute Hughton and Calderwood appeared on the scene Holt wanted out.

Why did he not explain in such detail why he wanted to leave last summer then, before he had even played a game for Hootun? That would have been interesting.

The bit I don't like is this "I was ready to leave in January", I dunno, it just seems like a funny kind of thing to say when the tapes are rolling and you're broadcasting to thousands of City fans - and many story hungry journalists - who are going to be listening to to every word.

If it was this "blokey chat" thing why couldn't they have had it down the pub afterwards? It's not as if they don't knock about with each and don't know what's going on anyway. That wasn't it at all, this was more of an unnecessary little dig that didn't need to be made in my opinion.

I don't know why its a funny thing to say, the manager was negative from the opening games. He states its the reason for leaving, I don't think there are many who would say Hughton was not negative or at least over-defensive throughout the whole season.

What is there to disagree with? He probably felt forced out.

Ok, so I'll ask again, if this is all true then why did he want to leave last summer before a ball was kicked?

I don't know, could be a whole manner of things, personal, Calderwood, Hughton, his contract, McNally. He got the contract he wanted which I believe was the real reason.

I do believe Hughtons tactics were the prime reason for leaving because its where the evidence points.

It won't be long before the fans are moaning about it again this season.

    You hope

Amateur mistake carrabuh, holt handed in the transfer request before Hughton even arrived, before there was any suggestion he would arrive.
