I know he is quite popular now, but yes I really like his stuff, and have been a fan of his music for a pretty long time.
What do people think to muse's new album? I think they are still lost in the mainstream void. It has got to the point now where I havnt bought their last 2 CDs. The missus buys them and I listen.
It's grown on me, but since Absolution (possibly my favourite album ever), it's all been downhill, with fewer and fewer tracks I come back to. From the 2nd law, Supremacy and Panic Station are ok, and I don't mind a couple of others, but on the whole it's a disappointment for me.
I wouldn't say its a disappointment, I still think that the other tracks are pretty good, but Supremacy and Panic Station are easily the best 2 tracks on the record, with Supremacy being my personal favorite. The thing about Muse is they have blown up in the states because of the last 2 albums, and I remember kids even back at the end of high school telling me how much they love muse, and the one song they know is Knights of Cydonia from guitar hero, and it just got so annoying when I've been listening since Absolution (prob their best album). Speaking of Muse, one of my favorites of theirs
Huge fan of Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, just a shame it was never enough of a hit to get played live much. Also love Ruled by Secrecy: Most of that album is brilliant though, although I wish Fury made the cut instead of The Small Print:
Don't be offended but it annoys me how so many Muse fans have turned against them now that they're popular. Really doesn't reflect well on the fanbase. Partly this is because a lot of it is just an excuse to hate on Resistance, which I enjoyed, and Black Holes and Revelations was pretty good too. Haven't listened to 2nd Law yet but nothing I've heard in the build-up has encouraged me too
To me, it's not a case of "Now that they're popular", it's just the music has changed, and I like it less. If Muse produced "Absolution II" for example, I'd be on it like sonic, no matter how popular it was with everyone else, even if the critics, etc, panned it for being just like the first album. One thing Muse have never done is stand still with their music, and it's got progressively more electronic over time. I just preferred it at the start of that progression. I enjoyed Black Holes, don't get me wrong, but it's probably the last Muse album I can listen to every track on, and enjoy it. Whenever listening to Resistance, I have to skip United States of Eurasia (awesome live, just doesn't work at home) and Guiding light, and the 3 part orchestral piece Exogenesis is a wonderful piece of musicality, but not something I can listen to whilst working. One of the things I disliked about Resistance was how short as an album it was, take away exogenesis and the 2 songs I dislike, and you're left with 6 songs, which is hardly an album. I'm glad that was addressed with the 2nd Law, and I certainly like some of it, but in places I feel they've overdone the electronic side, and reined things in when they could have gone mental with a riff. Liquid state is a prime example of that, as Bellamy doesn't sing on it, it's the perfect chance for him to really cut loose with the guitar, but it just doesn't happen.
I've honestly enjoyed all their albums, and even if they released one that wasn't good I'd still like them, just maybe not that album. One album isn't enough to completely remove me from their fan base, and the thing is, even though absolution is great, I wouldn't want them to keep making the same album, cause that'd get boring. Its good that artists try and stay true to themselves while also trying to explore new areas of music. Having listened to the 2nd Law all the way through a couple of times, I'd say it isn't their best, but its a solid album nonetheless.
Some easy(ish) listening

I love this Muse album, I hated resistance though. I weren't sure about second law at first but it's definitely grew on me. Anyway with Lacuna Coil mentioned and Megadeth, it's only fitting I post my favourite !egadeth song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn01nSG4cvU
As I've been posting on here less and less I've decided to make a comeback (though hopefully better than Schumachers!). With this in mind, here's a good track to come back with...
