Personally I think this is poor reporting by the BBC, this is taken from an interview he gave on McVeigh and Butler last night he states that he was ready to go last summer and january and that he felt his time had run its course at NCFC. He only brings up Hughton when asked about him.
dave, that's holty though. he's a character, he doesn't take himself or life too seriously and is usually good for a soundbite or two. the problem i have with this is that it wasn't warranted at this stage, especially as he's not telling the real truth (although i'm sure it is part of the reason why he got a bit down). he could have said it when he first left, not a day before the campaign starts. he's done that deliberately, absolutely no question. there's no secret behind the transfer request - he was having family issues and wanted to move the family back to carlisle. i won't go into what those family issues were but there's no question in my mind it affected his performances a bit with the uncertainty of his situation. i have no doubt hughton's style, and the fact he didn't see holt as a key player for the future, nibbled at his ego somewhat (and holt has a big ego, i promise you!) and this is his dig back. it's all a little bit sad if you ask me and uncalled for.
didn't realise that and it does put a slightly different slant on things. the bbc are good at twisting things to create a story which doesn't really exist
Fair call Supers, one of the main reasons I enjoy your posts is because I know you have a certain amount of "insider knowledge" from your time at the club, I think my problem this time is I think so highly of Holty that I'm having trouble accepting it as a deliberate dig!
you know holty is one of my heroes but he does have a tendency to put his foot in it! he was a truly great player for us, a legend, but he did have his faults. in a way its good we see through them - the legend can remain a legend
Its actually a very good natured interview and obvious that he and McVeigh get on very well. He was very positive about that club and seemed very genuine. I do think your right that he didn't want to fade away here would rather be good at a lower level than hold on in the prem for 10 minutes at the end of games.
i think he left at the right time. i didn't want him to go but with the benefit of hindsight it was bleeding obvious it would be this summer and not next. he does love the club, he's had the most sensational spell here but his family came first, quite rightly.
Definitely the right moment to go, shame he wasn't 5 years younger when his career really took off, he could have smashed our goal scoring record and played for England, but life doesn't work like that. Like seeing him do well with wigan though and would be good to see him score 20 and get promoted.
He will always be a legend and what a player he was for us. He has been there through one of the most monumental rises of our club. However the time was right to move on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPRmJo4c_So
i think you speak for us all on that point! much, much, much better player than he has ever been given credit for.
See nothing wrong with it he clearly was frustrated at times and probably needed a new challenge we had 4 incredible years from him and sold him for five times what we paid for him Winners all round
Its interesting this sort event always brings about 2 views when it comes to players in the press. Those who feel they should be very PC and keep good relations and those who feel they should say what they think even if it may unsettle a few. Guess in an ideal world you want a balance between the two and some common sense
Thats quite bizarre Pyjamas, I seem to recall you said exactly the opposite last year when he was actually here and he was playing as well as ever.
he did play very well during our ten game unbeaten run so yes, i shouldn't have posted the bit above as it's unfair but he was off colour for the rest of the season
Superman, do you think you could possibly contribute a post which doesn't begin with some preamble that lets us all know that you are in with the in crowd and therefore are privy to knowledge that us mere mortals do not possess? I'm sorry, but I'm sick of your constant self-aggrandisement.
I don't like putting people on ignore. It feels rude. And you make a lot of pertinent points and have a lot to offer. But why do you have this need to feel superior to everyone else?
