Since their return to the top division, City have yet to lose to the Toffees the record being one win and three draws. But, as they say, records are there to be broken and Saturday's game will be a stern test against a club who hold the record of playing an incredible 110 years of top flight football. Founder members of the Football League, Everton have spent just one season outside of the top division. Significent past encounters: 1972 City played their first ever top flight game against Everton at Carrow Road. The match finished in a 1-1 draw, fans favourite Jimmy Bone opening the scoring for Norwich before Joe Royle salvaged a draw for the toffees. please log in to view this image Jimmy Bone opens the scoring for City in City's first ever top flight fixture against Everton 1989 Everton beat City 1-0 in an FA Cup semi-final, however this fixture was overshadowed by the dreadful events that were unfolding in the other semi-final at Hillsborough. Had City won this tie, it is often argued as to whether the final would have ever taken place. The fact that the two Liverpool giants had reached the final was probably the deciding factor, as it was obvious to many that those who had lost their lives on that fateful day would have wanted this game to take place. please log in to view this image Robert Rosario with his face in his hands leaves the field after City's FA Cup sem-final deafeat to the Toffees 1993 Efan Ekoku scores four times for City as they thrash Everton 5-1 at Goodison Park Played for both clubs: Surprisingly there have been many players who have worn both Canary yellow and the Royal blue of the Toffees. If Coventry won they would survive and send Norwich down to the second tier. Everton fielded an understrength side and were convincingly beaten, a situation that would never be allowed today. Norwich were relegated and became the first ever side to win a Wembley cup final and be relegated in the same season. 1994 Mike Walker, one of Norwich's greatest ever managers who led the Canaries to a 3rd place finish in the Premier League's inaugaral season, leaves to take the reigns at the Toffees. So the waiting is finally over folks the new Premier League campaign is about to begin, put on those replica shirts and for those who are able, get down to fortress Carrow Road and sing your hearts out. "Kick off, throw in, have a little scrimmage, Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo win or die. On the ball City, never mind the danger, Steady on, now's your chance, Hurrah, we've scored a goal !" P.S. due to work commitments etc, etc, I haven't been posting much on here recently so hopefully no-one else has been designated to do these threads? Anyway, hopefully most of you like my first match thread for the new season. OTBC CTID
Other notable names: Tony Cottee - hmm, didn't he do well Must admit, as high profile signings go, he ranks highly on the most disappointing players list
Ha, ha and I have an 'O' level A grade in English language believe it or not ! Anyway, I've corrected it
come on city! getting very exited now, just want it to start - read too many pundit predictions surely it will be better than last season's opener
I am partly excited but just waiting to see if I can connect to a stream before I celebrate the new season. If I can't watch the games live, it's gonna be a bloody long season
I'm going for the same outcome as last year, a very close, nervy 2-1 win the Wolf opening his account with one of the goals
I have noticed that the web address has changed for Firstrow since the old one was blocked. Try this tomorrow Thai http://www.firstrow.org/
Great post, I have a terrible memory so very jealous of your NCFC knowledge, think of this as proof reading, I spotted this error: "The fact that the two Liverpool giants had reached the final was probably the deciding factor, as it was obvious to many that those who had lost their lives on that fateful day would have wanted this game to place place."
I was gutted when Walker went. We certainly wouldn't have dropped like we did under Deehan if he had stayed, and it just never worked out for Walker at Goodison.
