http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23723921 Justified comments? Possibly but we did have to be a bit more defensive in the long run imo. Tough call but maybe a better balance could have been found.
Completely justified from a strikers POV, especially one that has been scoring for fun in previous seasons. We could all see his frustration at times, so such comment is not that surprising. Shame he felt he needed to move on but can't blame him.
Did he really need to come out and say all this in public? I personally don't think that he did, but that's just my opinion for what it's worth
He didn't need to come out and say it but he didn't really say anything revolutionary. Saying this he claims he was happy at the club? Yet he handed in a transfer request before CH arrived. So maybe he was just looking for an excuse and it was given to him? Still he was fantastic for us.
So the comments on "missing the family"etc etc were just a smoke screen. It was obvious to anyone watching that Holt was unhappy with his role last season, but he always gave 100% when he did play/come on as a sub. Hughton's roll was to keep us up and he did that admirably, and cannot be faulted. All out attack (Lambert style) was never going to work last season, teams had worked us out. Sorry to see the big man go, but as they say, "The King is dead, long live the King" (Whoever he is)
I don't think he said anything out of order, he wasn't rude about CH's style of play, he just said it didn't suit him, but that he always gave 100% when on the pitch, which nobody can dispute! He was also complimentary about the club and supporters! No drama, no harm done to any side!
Im sure they did have a part to play. He has been adamant that he wanted to move back north for a long time. But I agree it is time to move on and with our new signings it could be an exciting season
Sometimes a manager's system just suits a player and Lambert's suited Holt. I think Hughton's suited Bradley Johnson more.
Can we please, please put to bed this notion that under Lambert we played "all out attack" or "gung ho football" because although we were more adventurous and expansive under him, the only times we were gung ho was when trailing with ten minutes to go and we threw the kitchen sink at the opposition goal. Not once can I remember attack! attack! attack! from the first whistle, it just wasn't like that despite what some try to have you believe And Dave I didn't say he was being rude or said anything out of order, I just don't quite understand why he needed to comment at all, that's all. If he's going to say this then for completeness surely he should also tell us why he put in a transfer request last summer? None of this has sullied my feelings on the man by the way, he'll forever be a legend and I'll always love him for what he did for our club, I just don't understand why he felt the need to make these comments, that's all
I don't see what the issue is, he just saying what a lot of people felt about the tactics last season, He's perfectly entitled to come out and say what other people are thinking. Personally I think the tactics were defensive because of the squad we had at the time, we were lacking in certain areas, CH was right to play it safe and try to concede as little as possible.
Munky, the "rude" thing was a generalisation, not aimed at you or anyone else! He spoke about it because he was asked, I assume nobody is suggesting he should have lied!
The whole broadcast came across to me as three mates having a chat, when that happens, diplomacy often goes out the window!
having got to know holty a little over the years i think it would be fair to say he is often a bit rash both on and off the field. unfortunately i think his comments are deliberately a little bit naughty and timed badly on purpose as a swipe at hughton (who he didn't really see eye to eye with). he's not said anything too juicy but he has tried to make out that the reason he wanted to leave was due to tactics and i know for a fact that this is untrue. i know he stayed in the end but it was with conditions. he wanted out before hughton even arrived. he risked his rapport with the fans last summer and i don't think anyone ever quite felt the same about him last season and despite what many have claimed, i do not believe he was anywhere near his best last term, even when the team was playing well. granted, he was asked to play a different role for the team and it didn't particularly suit him but he knew he wasn't good enough to play it and his head went down. i'm a bit disappointed in him (again). he didn't need to make the comments on the eve of the new season. shame.
Supers, I reckon this is one of the very few occasions when I disagree with you! I'm not privy to your personal knowledge, but listening to the programme, it seemed a bit of light-hearted banter to me! As I say, I don't know the reasons behind his transfer request, but as it was when PL was still part of the club, it couldn't have been anything to do with CH!
