This post... So if you have 4 transfer targets you should let them all go to the wire because "that's when the real business gets done"? And suppose that not everything is in your hands and as time goes on everything depends more and more on external factors (e.g. the selling club finding a replacement). Then you miss 3 out of 4 transfers, you should go for Squillaci type alternatives I take it, as there's no more time to **** about? Indeed.
So with Arteta expected to be out for 6 weeks, this means we need a new midfielder and Wenger has been forced into a corner.
There's probably a variety of reasons for this but I can't see any reason why the window can't end on 31 July meaning that every club knows exactly where they stand on week 1. We have 5 fixtures before the window closes and our season could easily be well shaped by the time the gong chimes....
Meaning he wasn't going to buy in the first instance? Strange thing to accuse him of unless you know something you are not sharing.
I don't know what he intended, but I know no-one has been signed up to now, so we'll have to make a plan either way.
That's the nub of what I am getting at. Your comments suggest there is no plan and now the Arteta situation has forced the club to make one. I am not in a position to say whether you are correct or not, you could make a luck guess, but I am certain that you cannot know whether the club has plans already or not & what those plans are. Not picking on you Mihaela, just getting a little peeved at some of the crap being spouted as if it were known facts when it can't be.
I didn't mean to make it sound like there's no plan, of course we can't know if they intended to sign someone in the coming days but like I said in an earlier post, we should wait until September 3rd before making judgments. Also everyone is understandably irritated with the the way this transfer window has gone so far.... regardless of that we have to make the best of the situation. Thanks for your measured response.
I have never managed a club, but I imagine that you let clubs know of your interest in all the players you might sign and then start to work on specific transfers in a top down fashion from your most hoped for targets down. That way, you get the best players possible. If you worked the other way and signed any player that was available and you could get quickly in a less organized way, you might get a lot of players that were just marginally acceptable. Unfortunately you are going to have some players move before you get to them, but, as they are lower down on the desirability list, that is a preferable risk to losing a better player, because a less desirable player that played the same position said yes first.
I wonder if Wenger has been tested for dementia recently. It would explain the bizarre sabotage he has perpetrated on his own club.
If we make a couple of signings in the last few days of this window, then the people whinging now will soon change their tune. There are still more than two weeks left of this window, and the best part is still to come
