    Good Will hunting.

Newcastle's Sammy Ameobi featured in the closing stages of England U21 victory over Scotland on Tuesday night, but while United representatives were present to watch him at Bramall Lane, that wasn't their sole motivation.

Along with scouts from a number of other top-flight sides, the Magpies were there to check on the form of Derby County's promising midfielder Will Hughes.

Just 18, Hughes was winning his third cap at U21 level, following his fast-tracking from the U17 side in 2012.

Breaking into the Rams first team during November 2011, he's started both of their league fixtures this season and appeared as a substitute in the League Cup.

Scouted by Newcastle last season, Hughes suffered with a groin problem but now appears fully recovered. He's under contract at Pride Park until 2016.

Seems a decent player but I don't know a great deal about what's going on outside of the Premiership. Anybody know anything about him? If you think he'll be a good addition to the squad? Or do you think we should wait and see how he pans out and risk losing him to another team?

Undoubtedly a very talented player, but I do have an inkling he will never fulfill his full potential, especially if he comes to us

We have done this before I remember seeing Jenas as a ridiculously talented 18 year old but when he left I'd say he was no better a player than when he first arrived. Hopefully our coaching is better than under Sourpuss.....
