You're missing Pritchard from the loan list, Moorpheus. You've also missed out Willian, Lamela, Eriksen, Alderweireld and about 16 others from the signing list...
Sorted The Pritchard bit - I await the OS update on the others... Eriksen's agent has said he'll go to a club competing in the CL and for titles. I think maybe he's over-rating him a tad, especially moving abroad. Lamela, Pjanic, Alderweireld and Coentrao are probably my top 4 wants Out of those 4 I'd say Alderweireld is a must (or Vlad) - we need a proper CB still. Rumours continue on Bale - apparently AVB said 'not willing to negotiate at this stage' which people have taken to mean Bale will go after we've got all our ins.
Not that logical. Do these players not take any wages? A 100k a week player costs an extra £5 million and I doubt that the salaries of those that left cover the salaries of those we have bought.
I bet the salaries of Bentley, Gallas, Dempsey and THudd added up to a few bob. Hull will be paying Livermore, I'd guess Caulker must have been on about 15 - 20k a week. I bet not much has changed at the moment.
In: Paulinho, Chadli, Soldado, Capoue. Out: Gallas, Bentley, Caulker, Dempsey, Huddlestone and some youth players that wouldn't have cost much in wages. I wouldn't have thought that we were far off breaking even on salaries. Add Parker to the list and it becomes even closer.
But TV money has always been a big part of the club's finances. Better to think: what is the increase on the TV money from last year? Pretty much every year I've seen figures for Spurs lose a little bit of money every year except when we sell a big player (we made a small profit the year we sold Berba). Basically there is no "build-up" of transfer funds sloshing about in some kitty according to all the evidence that I've ever seen. Spurs break even(ish) or lose a bit of money every year, regardless of slow January windows or not. This summer either Lewis et al have decided that a greater loss than usual is permittable/desirable OR there's some private investment going on (in a way that circumvents the ineffectual FFP rules) OR we, er, might be getting some sort of transfer-fee windfall from somewhere at some point. Can't imagine how...
One thing that seems to be notable is that the new faces seem likely to be on fairly middling wages. I read somewhere that Soldado was on 40k before he came to us. Paulinho in Brazil won't have been on EPL-sized wages, ditto the other two who came from slightly lesser European clubs.
Humongous. The bottom placed PL team will get more TV revenue this season than Utd got when winning it last year!
"It sounds like something anyone could write, but I still found it relatively interesting. ..." Which can be summarised as follows : 1. Joe Lewis is a very wealthy individual 2. But Spurs are not a personal plaything or vanity project. 3. ENIC are a big business corporation, not clueless morons making it up as they go along.
And if Spurs are up there fighting for the Title in the next couple of years the naming rights on the stadium will be worth closer to £200M than £20M and vice versa if we cock it up. 'The art of business is taking the risk out of gambling'. I guess that's what ENIC are up to.
One of the problems is finding the "sweet spot" . Sugar made the mistake in thinking that football was just like Amstrad etc, and all the usual business practices apply. My one gripe with Lewis (and this relates to the NEW STRIKER saga) , is that ENIC had not injected that extra bit of cash to get a key resource needed for THFC the business to progress as a whole. And I'm not talking Sugga Daddy FC antics either. For a man whose legend is made on one of the biggest financial risk takings known, putting in 30m etc to get the next Berbatov etc is like risking having to pay for the next round of drinks for your mates on a game of rock-paper-scissors.
Lol ta - I phrased my reply wrong though - I meant I had sorted the Pritchard bit and was awaiting the OS update on the others (Lamela etc.)
That's £40.1m according to google. Lamela has a buyout clause of £32m I believe although I've heard rumours that Roma would accept £25m (don't think I believe that though). I can't see Pjanic being worth £8m
