Morning all newmarket 315 SKYTRAIN looks massive at 10s and with callan onboard they could go very close. Skytrain has raced a few of these over this distance and weight and come out on top so chances are good . Ew as usual good luck all
Morning, troops. Hope everyone well. Good, good. As I said on the other thread the one that I like in the counties big race of the year is AFSARE (3.55 Salisbury). He’s 4 pounds+ ‘well in’ on official figures and I think he has the class to oblige here. Steps back to a mile this afternoon and has displayed an aversion to the stalls, in the past, but providing he’s not a ‘stupid boy’ I can’t see any reason why he can’t win. A dual Listed winner arguably his best runs came last summer when runner-up in both the Group 2 York Stakes and the Grade 1 Arlington Million. Afsare’s 2nd placing to Mandour at Sandown, last time out, now reads very well as the 4th home that day won a Group 3 at the weekend whilst at ‘Glorious’ Goodwood the 3rd place finisher, from Sandown, was just touched off in similar company. There is also a very interesting one at Newmarket making his belated seasonal return. Old boy Gosden’s SEEK AGAIN (4.20) had a couple of runs as a 2YO which indicated considerable ability. First time up he won a 19 runner maiden comfortably prior to running very respectably to finish runner-up to the subsequent 2,000 Guineas third, Van Der Neer (last ran off 110). A perch of 90 looks highly exploitable this afternoon providing he is fully fit. Good luck, team.
I bet the old Executive at Salisbury are Fuming with a capital ‘F’ as 40 miles away Newbury are granting everyone free admittance to their 8 race ‘Arab’ card. Sure to hit attendance levels at the Wiltshire track that.
well after yesterdays debacle , i am going to back Highland Knight in the group 3 at salisbury--a race that the trainer will be ultra keen to win, horse will have been targeted at this long ago--not that that confers success--but at least its positive, and with stable form being pretty good ,i think its worth a wager. If successful i will also play Lady Pimpernel in the last........good luck all..
Red, I’ve a feeling that in the past Newbury have held this ‘Arab’ card on a Sunday (I may be wrong but know for sure they have deffo held such cards, at any rate, on a Sunday). Can’t really see why they can’t tag it onto the end of their August fixture rather than the ‘start’ as they have done here. Maybe they think that old boy Meatloaf, who is singing after racing on Saturday, will trash the place and leave it in such a state that racing isn’t possible the next day! Seriously though must be a big blow to Salisbury who put up their biggest prize pot ever and then have such huge competition so nearby.
Might be close as the crow flies but it's quite a treck from Newbury to Salisbury, hardly an issue in my book.
Interesting to see My Titania make her debut for John Oxx this evening in the fillies maiden at Leopardstown , currently 10/3 she clearly is held in high regard and is Oxx's first STS runner and no matter what she does tonight will no doubt improve in what look'a a good maiden on paper.
The rain hitting Ffos Las yesterday cost me a winner as I will not bet when the going is Soft and the 4:40 was won by Bohemian Rhapsody carrying 10st – and it beat The Queen’s horse! Here in deepest darkest East Yorkshire, the relative lack of precipitation has led to a mass of non-runners on the dross card at Beverley; but there was no decent bet there anyway. I have had a look at the horses that are on winning streaks and out of those that are not already non-runners due to going chances, my thoughts are as follows: Salisbury 5:00 Portrait – on a four-timer for Sir Mark Prescott but all those wins came on firm going at Bath, so although this is a short-priced favourite for a bang-in-form trainer this is a no bet because the overnight rain has turned watered Good To Firm ground into Good ground in Wiltshire. Salisbury 4:30 My Own Way Home – another on a four-timer but again the going is the big problem with this one as it was a non-runner yesterday at Ffos Las when the heavens opened and it is no longer fast at Salisbury. No bet. Salisbury 3:25 Prospera – on a hat-trick for Ralph Beckett although last time out was on the all-weather. It is rising up the handicap but does appear to be capable of putting in the necessary improvement and may end up as favourite with the bookies. Newmarket 2:40 Willow Beck – looks like a good prospect for the hat-trick for John Gosden as the handicapper has not been excessive for the latest victory and yesterday’s Beverley winner Classic Punch has defected to simplify the task.
The free day at newbury had always been in the sunday as far back as I can remember. I went once and said never again. They give out a free goodie bag to everyone which is just full of cheap tat like a bag, plastic CD holder case. Pen and other rubbish. This brings out all the scum of newbury and nearby areas. Not very pleasant.
Well done on Skytrain, uncle cracker. I did not have a dime on it, though! I think I must be jinxed. I am going to give up at this rate. Last night I missed Bohemian Rhapsody completing a hat-trick at Ffos Las as the ground had gone Soft. Today I missed Willow Beck completing a hat-trick because the 5/2 had gone and it bolted up at 15/8. Prospera never looked like completing the hat-trick at Salisbury with the handicap of my money on it. Everything I have backed this month that has been on a winning sequence has failed to place whilst the ones I leave win. So that must make My Own Way Home and Portrait good things... As Snowboarder did not win last time, I might be in with a chance!
Today, Charlie Appleby has had an easy winner over at Deauville with Zibelina and an even easier winner at Newmarket with Music Theory (admittedly only four runners). In the feature race at Salisbury he sends two to post and they finish second last (Fulbright) and tailed off last (Snowboarder). That Andrea Atzeni never wins when he is on anything I have backed, but my mother could have won on Afsare - even with the overweight! Somebody go and check whether the hamster on the wheel running Not606 is completely knackered - reloading the daily thread has been timing out all week. Maybe it is all those bloody Facebook plug-ins...
Just checked in and found two very good winners in Skytrain and Afsare, wel done Sir Barney and Uncle Cracker. I thought Afsare did it beautifully and one of those races that you can see the winner four furlongs out. Only one for me today Sizzler in the last Salisbury 8-1.
