Anyone seen this? http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...ic-canary-anthem-at-grounds-across-the-land/? He bases his opinions on Hull on his experiences of the city in 1974, and says he doubts much has changed since then! ...and that is from someone who works/worked in media! No wonder Hull has had soo many lies told about it over the years if people like this are the ones reporting on things!
I posted this comment, but I doubt it will pass moderation: August 15, 2013 at 11:27 amWhat a blinkered load rubbish! You do realise Kingston Upon Hull is nominated for City of Culture status, don’t you? There is a reason for that: A hell of a lot has changed since bloomin 1974!Perhaps you should do some research before spouting nonsense? It is a thriving cosmopolitan city, full of cafe-bars lining a quayside and a marina full of yachts, with museums and galleries in abundance.I wasn’t born till 1986, but I know that at least 2 new shopping centres, a marina, a museums quarter, numerous dedicated tourist trails and a continental style avenues area have all been established since 1974! …maybe pop into the tourist information and pick up a few leaflets while you’re in the city, who knows, you may surprise yourself? No wonder Hull has had so many lies told about it over the years if people such as yourself are the type based in media! …don’t forget your pasties and cider, we don’t have such luxuries ‘oop north’ y’know. ....how ironic is it that a Norwich fan says Hull is difficult to get to?!!
Jesus Christ that's one of the dullest peices Ive ever read. It seems a right riot being a Norwich fan doesnt it?: Queuing for programmes, coffee or burgers, it’ll all be Canary talk: “What time did you set off? I didn’t realise how far it is to Hull….” “Have you heard the line up yet? Is Bassong fit? “ “What about Pilks?” “Any chance he’ll play two up front…” “Were you at Fulham last year? It can’t be that bad… can it?” “Can’t stand Steve Bruce.” “But he did score that semi-final winner for us against the sc*m!” “I reckon it’ll be two-nil to us, with the Wolf scoring both!” Ooo they're so intimidating Im already quakeing in my boots....
I just read an article by Jamie '****' Redknapp where he picks the most important player this season for each Prem team... Here's his choice for 'ull: Hull City George Boyd I think Hull will be disappointed with the number of players they've got in so far this summer but George Boyd is a good player and a good signing from Peterborough. He did a great job for Hull last season on loan and he's got pace and can run with the ball - and if you've got that in your locker you can be a success in the Premier League. He could be their most important player. Tom Huddlestone has also joined them and he's a lovely footballer as well. What a load of ****ing ****, as per usual from that twat Redknapp. He knows **** all about us if he thinks we are disappointed with who we've brought in, and also if he thinks Boyd will be our most important player. "Tom Huddlestone has also joined them and he's a lovely footballer as well."- **** off Jamie, you just can't admit that he is a fantastic signing.
Let teams think what they like about us! I just want Brady & aluko to tear them apart for 90 mins! Putting in quality crosses & through balls! If redknapp and others think we've just got Boyd! Well that's great! Boyd might not even make the starting eleven
We weren't nominated as a city of culture we put our names forward to be accurate. Where are all these cafe arms lining the quayside? The number of places for someone to go in that area is a joke, as was shown by people wandering about with nowhere to go when all those visitors arrived for the yachting do. Of course this was more to do with the police who did their best to get e dry li ended establishment in the area shut down. Although our useless council hasn't helped. The lack of use of that area compared to waterfronts in other cities is a disgrace. But unfortunately the local police and too many in authority in Hull regarded anywhere open after 11pm and the people who wish to be there with grave suspicion and a threat to civil order.
Lets face it, it's not just that is it? Hull must be the worst city centre for nightlife in the UK. I know there is 1884DSK but before that name me one restaurant you would go to in the city centre? There arent any of even average quality and there cant be another city in the UK that can say that. Yes the daytime economy in the city centre is very good and beats a lot of other places, but evening is appalling. Everyone in Hull knows to go to Newland and Princes Avenues but remember that visitors will always try the city centre and so they should.
We were nominated for the shortlist - other cities put themselves forward, only 4 were nominated for the shortlist. As for the Quayside, the 'Quayside' is not the Marina, the Quayside is the stretch of cafe-bars alongside Princes Quay i.e. 'Princes Dock Street'. McCoys, Leonardos, Da Vinci's and Cuckoos are all along there. As for the marina, there is: 13 Bistro and Bar, 1884 Dock Street Kitchen, The Minerva, Green Bricks, The Wilson and Tasty who all serve food.
Nightlife? Are you talking drinking or eating? I'd say it's decent for a relaxing drink with places like Walters, Jaz, Garbo's and the old boozers like Sailmakers, Black Boy, Ye Olde White Harte etc... A proper night out can be a bit 'samey', but if you haven't been out in a while will always be a good laugh. Eating in the city centre; I agree, there isn't much offerings, but it is getting better - there isn't just 1884DSK, 13 Bistro & Bar does good food. I'm told Garbo's food is pretty good, Ceruttis, The Wilson, Stanley's Brasserie, Pasaz, Wokkas (which is brilliant, so cheap too), Vanilla, Hitchcocks (if you're veggie), Old Custom House (though I've never been, so don't know if it is any good?) ...then there are the more 'chain' like places; Ask, Prezzo, Pizza Express, Handmade Burger Co etc... so it isn't like there isn't anywhere to eat in the centre, they're all just a little bit spread out, rather than in a cluster like on Princes Ave/Newland Ave.
The old town bars are brilliant, full of real ale on draught like walters, ye olde black boy, sailmakers in a lovely area Jazz bar, garbos, barracuda are pretty good too, massive inside with various acoustic performances although the beer in those places is pretty poor an it's over £3 for a pint of fosters(which is probably the best beer on offer) I'm starting to tire of the clubbing culture,, not that hull offers much, a couple of big clubs spread out ridiculously, welly and spiders are!'t even in the town centre and pozitions pretty much out the way Princes ave is full of great bars but in a bad place for the visitor, everythjngs just completely spread out.. If they were all in the midst of the city centre, hull would be absolutely booming
Absolutely can't wait for us to prove all those tossers who couldn't be arsed to look at our signings wrong.
Totally agree. In an ideal world you'd take the best bits of Princes and Newland Avenues, stick them all on the Marina and it would be fantastic. The whole Avenues scene started with Pave about 10 years ago (I think? Might be wrong) taking a risk and all the other places followed so perhaps all it needs is someone to do something similar on the Marina.
Norwich most have the most window licker fans in the league and the worst club song. That apart, it's an affluent old town with a relatively sophisticated nightlife & cuisine. It's isolation means it had maintained much of its identity and heritage. However it does exude blandness and the people are somewhat bucolic and of Saxon heritage. Imagine a much wealthier chocolate box version of Hull peopled with asexual lobotomised 'droids, but with 0.1% of the character and wit of our historic Hanseatic League port .
On the other side, Mark Lawrenson has predicted us to stay up on the BBC website. "Of the three promoted teams, Cardiff and Palace will be down there but Hull look best equipped to stay up. For all the promoted teams, we are talking about a bottom-six finish and their aim will be to finish top of the bottom six. Going up from the Championship is such a massive step." First sensible thing you've said in a while, Mark.
When we went there the other year (the one we lost 2-1 with Cort scoring the opener after about 2 minutes) we went down their main street before the game looking for somewhere to get something to eat/drink. I thought then it felt like being in some artificial town like Disneyland but where everything was shut because it was out of season.
