Exactly. England are too caught up in who they are rather than what they are, and admitting there are serious faults (until relatively recently), was practically heresy. We need to step back, employ forward thinking managers and technical staff, and rebuild from the roots up.
Lol no deffo not but they certainly sacrificed a few years to restructure their entire football development and are now reaping the rewards.
Can't disagree, but I doubt, sadly, that we'll ever be like Germany, no matter what. I've waited many years in vain for it to happen. I guess I'm of the old school who always supports my country (or one of them) and know we'll hear the same old stuff after every game. I'm fully aware of their shortcomings obviously.
Loved Hodgson taking the credit for calling Lambert up when he wouldn't have got a look in had Sturridge been fit.
Why does Joe Hart impress me less and less each time I see him between the sticks? Surely Ruddy is going to take over the keepers jersey for England in the next year or two.
If Hart keeps letting in goals like the one last night it will be less than a "year or two" when Ruddy takes over. Don't get me wrong Morrison's goal was fantastic but it was definitely saveable.
The really annoying thing is that if Ruddy had gone to Chelsea this summer he would probably become England's #1 just like that <clicksfingers> Almost as annoying as all these people who laughed and laughed and laughed at the prospect of Grant Holt playing for England in the past two years now coming out and hailing Rickie Lambert as the messiah
While i think Hart could/should have dealt with the first goal better, it was harder than most people are saying, the ball was travelling fast, it went through a lot of bodies plus it dipped and moved at the very last second. I would blame a lack of closing down as the major factor in the goal, stop the shot, stop the goal. Plus a goalkeeper is only as good as his last game, against Brazil, Hart was superb yet that quickly moves on from peoples minds. As for game, what a fantastic friendly, does make a huge point of instead of having friendlies against other countries why not bring back the home nations competition.
To be fair I didn't actually watch the game as I was out being slightly underwhelmed (as anticipated) by the Alan Partridge movie
i really enjoyed last nights match, very entertaining. on a side note, three of our fa youth cup winners have deservedly been called up for england under 19s. http://www.norwich.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=328730 delighted for all three, especially harry who has gone under the radar a bit - reminds me of craig fleming
I was expecting so much to be underwhelmed by the alan partridge film I thoroughly enjoyed it... Didn't enjoy the england game as much.
I was initially expected it to be mediocre (as with most tv comedy that has a pop at the big screen), but read good reviews and heard only good things from people who had seen it so I was actually expecting it to be hilarious. It was alright, and I did enjoy it but it isn't a patch on anything else he's done, which has all without exception been absolutely brilliant so it's a pretty high bar that he's set himself. I've been really enjoying the repeats of Knowing Me, Knowing You on Gold recently, that was absolutely brilliant and up there with anything from any era in my opinion. The radio show that preceded it was pure genius as well
