SHAUN Derry has only been at Millwall for a matter of days – but he is already sold on the idea of a permanent move.
The midfielder made his Lions debut against Ipswich Town last weekend after signing on a month's loan from QPR.
And Derry is hoping to impress sufficiently to earn a longer stay with Steve Lomas' side.
He said: "Initially it is just a month, 28 days, but I would have jumped at it being longer. At the same time, I fully understand what everyone's position is in the short-term. But I want to be here, I really do want to be here.
"I've only been here a couple of days but I have loved coming in for training and it's only 15 minutes away from home. That is a massive benefit for me as well because I'm used to sitting in the car for an hour and a half to get over to QPR.
"There were some days when you have a stinker on the motorway and your playing catchup as soon as you get into training. I feel I have more energy here."
Derry will hold talks with QPR manager Harry Redknapp at the end of the month but the 35-year-old's future almost certainly lies away from Loftus Road.
And his chances of playing regularly for The R's will become even slimmer if Tottenham midfielder Scott Park completes a move to West London as expected.
"Harry has been good as gold to me," Derry said. "He has told me to come here, get some games, enjoy my football and see what happens in a month's time.
"That's as far as things have gone with QPR. My agenda is slightly different because now I'm here I want to be here. I see what Steve is trying to do and would love to be part of it."

Derry, along with Hill, has been the best professional we've had at this club in recent years. I'd only let him leave with the proviso that he returns as a coach when he retires.

Agreed, I spend up to two and a bit hours travelling to work and the same back, each day.
Do I get paid for it .................. No.
We do it because it is part of the job.
Don't want to travel? No work, simple really.
I didn't expect such comment from a player I thought was, fair dinkum.

Been professional on the face but I get a sense that he contributed to unrest as well ... You need two sides to have a conflict . Attitude great but old fashioned IMO a good servant for QPR but never a coach but has a future in media I reckon
Technically not gifted all round but plays a really good hiding role
Pleased he got to play with us in the Prem and wish him well as I would want to play ... He won't under Harold

at his age he should be getting games he has not long left playing football. i dont think there will be a place in the team for him. we need to build a steady team for this year that can also compete in the premiership next year. i just dont see how he fits in sadly. he is in the same position as mackie he wants to start every game but it just wont happen. if he stays at milwall fair play. i hope he comes back and coaches us

I'd also like to see him back in a coaching role.

Judging by what he has said recently I would have no doubt that he was "involved in conflict" by getting arsey with the many who obviously couldn't give a ****. I know who's "side" we would want him to be on. Having a pop at him for that is not fair.

It is a great shame that there is no future for him at QPR, but he is 35 and has had his day. He is one of the very few in recent years that I will be sad to see go. I wish him all the luck in the world.

Don't have a bad word to say about Derry. Was disappointed when we initially signed him but since then he's become one of my favourite recent players. Huge player in our promotion season & from what I hear a nice bloke too!

You know what you are bang, bang on the money here, always felt it, the clique of Hill, Derry, Mackie was the smallest but was probably the snidiest. This Group was probably added to by the other British acquisitions and although always wanted to appear whiter than white, as you say it takes 2 to make a conflict and they certainly would have been in no hurry to be fixers.
This still does not take one scintilla of culpability from the stupidity and incompetence shown by Dumb, Dumber, Hughes the Clueless and Beard.

So suddenly it's the small group of triers that are to blame and not the overpaid wasters - nonsense.

    Wot Eamon said.

Also, I don't get why people are getting on his back about his commute being easier over there. He's just stating a fact, surely? Regardless of how much you're paid, cutting out 2 and a half hours driving every day is going to make a real difference to your life. Can't blame him for that.

Good luck to him but the way things are there at the moment I doubt Steve Lomas will be there too long, the majority of Millwall fans didn't want him as he's ex West Ham and two defeats has him under the cosh already...

I've never been to Denmark and know very little about the country, but I've always felt that it was full of people who are just like Sandi Toksvig - short and gay. The streets are covered in bacon and all the houses are made of Lego. I've always felt it ... so it must be true!

Christ Eamon, I'm 46! Are you saying I'll never pull on the hooped shirt at LR? Another dream dashed on the rocks of ageism
