btw, i reckon dawson's defending's about on a par with vertonghen, and not as good as kaboul. but it's all opinions at the end of the day.
Capoue: "There are only some paperwork to sign now. I will be at the training ground tomorrow. Tottenham is a super club. Its the best club to continue my career. It should be official very quickly now."
Well I did my best to make a joke out of it, as I'm trying to be good But all summer I've been railing against people, not just your good self, who blithely discard our captain. I just don't see why they do it, but it's all about opinions. I will do my best to stay chilled, but I find it very difficult when it comes to my beloved Spurs
See what happens if you suggest that there is any justification to not playing Lloris... (Stands back a safe distance).
Fair enough TJ. But a lot of Spurs supporters are out to get Dawson, (not so much on here, but in Spursdom in general) and it makes me mad. I wasn't fuming so much at Rob Spur just this general dissing of our captain that seems to go on. I know I should be respectful to other posters, and really try to be, and to be fair to me I wasn't rude to RS. It's just we are light years apart in how we see our team. I remember last year how AVB stuck Daws on the scrapheap and that was one of the main reasons we missed out on CL, I just so hope he doesn't make the same mistake again. The fact that Daws is our captain suggests to me he won't, but we'll see. Anyway I apologise to Rob for over zealous championing of my favourite Spurs player. Yes, he's even replaced Hugo, at least I don't have to champion him anymore thank goodness. As Lenny rightly says, boy did the red mist come down on that one I'm not proud of that, but I'm very passionate about my club.
I think the thing is that when fit and on a run of games and pre any injuries which may or may not have long-term effects Kaboul and Vertonghen are not only ahead of Dawson in AVB's mind but also (justifiably) in most fans' minds. Our club captain started last season as fifth-choice but when he got his chances he took them and we Spurs fans know that Dawson has hardly ever let Spurs down. Solid, solid player. Of course Dawson is now currently one of the incumbent CBs so yeah it's likely that Kaboul/Vertonghen will have to earn the right to displace him unless there are more injuries or Dawson's form drops dramatically. But I do not find it at all mystifying or distressing that people here are assuming that Kab/Verts is our first choice CB pairing. Objectively speaking (and I'm a big fan of Daws and hope he stays for many years to come) they are the better players (assuming Kab is back to how he was pre-injury which we have no reason to doubt).
I'm honestly laughing to mayself as I type this. But I am very on edge about the Palace game, and the thought of us failing to win, and horror of horrors losing, is making me far too edgy, I know that.
JPG I applaude your efforts to stay calm and play your part on this forum. As long as you go on explaining your comments as you have been I don't think anyone can take serious issue. Whilst perhaps not always agreeing with your views.
I'm more edgy about games like Palace, because that's where top 4 places are often won and lost. Last season we got two points out of the first nine, from games you would expect 6 or 7 points. Arsenal got the full nine from those games, absolutely crucial difference. I just fear this season, as we've done before early doors, we'll go into a winnable game badly prepared. The Capoue news cheers me up though
Fair comments Lenny. For me AVB was wrong when he tried to ditch Daws last season, just as he was wrong when he tried to ditch Terry and Lampard at Chelsea (or so I believe was the case) I think he'll be wrong to ditch Daws this time round if he does. We'll see.
Cheers Spurf. Sorry for getting a bit excitable, and I hope I haven't hurt anyone's feelings If I have, I apologise unreservedly.
Is this the wrong time to say that IMO Dawson is the weakest of our 3 CB's? Sorry GH10! I just think vertonghen and Kaboul are better, so Dawson wouldn't be in my starting line up if all were fit. Daws is a great leader and wears his heart on his sleeve, but I don't think is footballing ability is quite as good as the other two
No worries on my part JPG. Many thanks for clarifying that it was nothing personal. If you are that passionate about Michael Dawson, then I can understand why the team I hypothised about, might have made you a little keyed up !
Going back a page or so: lamela + pjancic please! Yeah it creates a selection dilemma but they are class and better than what we have. Like I've said lamela could end up one of the best, if the opportunity to sign him is there we would be nuts to turn it down, regardless of bale
I agree with you Roo,Daw's gives 100% when he plays, but as you say,Ability wise he is behind the other two
It's only worth getting those 2 if we're sacking off Townsend and Lennon. Even if Bale is off, it'd still be a position that we're overstocked in. I don't see how we can keep bale, chadli, Lennon, Townsend lamela and pjanic happy? If there's truth in this, Bale must be on his bike. It just seems like a ridiculous position on the pitch to be spending more money on, when there's clearly a need elsewhere. BTW, does anyone think that the "nothing happening with coentrao rumours" are just bullshit to keep the bale saga quiet with the media? If we are trying to bring in reinforcements to help our negotiations before he leaves, it makes sense that anything with coentrao is kept quiet too. I'm starting to get the feeling now that both deals are done. - especially with all this talk of other players we're after.
The ultimate Horror of Horrors would be going into the NLD with nil points. Worse if the goons have six. We have made a lot of changes and have to gel quickly. Even Man U sometimes start slowly after making a few signings. If Capoue starts he will probably have to be introduced to the rest of the team on the coach en route to Selhurst.
