Don't understand why Larson isn't taking the free kicks, yes gardener has a great shot but Seb is our free kick expert, scored a ton in his first season.
Free Kicks in shooting range? Gardner is doing fine to be fair as Larsson has gone from Specialist to absolute disaster. It's the deep freekicks that Sess wins we should be doing more with. Those are the free kicks that give us a 40-50 yard advantage in an instant (around the halfway line that a defender usually takes). It's where Sess gets fouled most. If we stop mindlessly punting it into the box and use our brains a bit.
I'm intrigued - did you ever see Jim Baxter play for Sunderland? Dennis Tueart? Charlie Hurley? Frank Worthington? Leighton James? Kevin Phillips? I'm not expecting him to score with every shot, but his shooting, passing and decision making in the box was bloody awful for a lot of last season - plus he just went missing too often. Would I sell hm no...........would I give him a kick up the arse, yes.
I am not sure how old you are, but I have followed the lads since 1962, so yes I have seen Jim Baxter, Dennis Tueart, Charlie Hurley, Kevin Phillips et al. I have also seen Nick Sharkey, George Herd, Billy Hughes, Colin Todd, Jim McNab, Stan Anderson, Brian Clough, Shaun Elliott, Vic Hallom, George Mulhall, Gary Rowell. Do I need to mention any more? The reason I list these great players is to demonstrate that I am not overawed by romanticism and my memory is not clouded by nostalgia, most of them played in the second tier of English football as much as they played in the top tier. I have always argued that todayâs players are better than the players of my era because they are fitter, stronger and are playing against players who are equally as fit and strong, the science of football has moved forward significantly to facilitate this. Jim Baxter was once my favourite player until he did the dirty on us and went to Forrest for the money, but when he came to us his career was in decline, Worthington and James were shadows of the players they were with their previous clubs. I respect your views but consider this, if Sess was everything we all want him to be he would not be at Sunderland, he would be keeping Messi out of the Barca side. Sess is as good as I have seen in a Sunderland shirt not because he is the perfect footballer but because neither are any of the others that you mention. As it happens, I completely agree with you, Sess needs a kick up the arse. In my humble opinion, the nearest player to perfection is the aforementioned Messi.
ah, the insults start as the argument slips from your grasp...................and your a mod, ffs man get a grip. Anyone with eyeballs eh, I have had a season ticket since before you were born mate, talent is talent, talent was Jim Baxter or any of the other names you just casually ignore - did you even bother to look at the link I apologised for the foolish comment my friend, obviously you are to arrogant to accept - no surprise there then. I will darken this board no more.................
Pardon? You said I was 'foolish' for pointing out another persons comment, I explained that Jim Baxter was NOT IN MY LIFETIME. Tit for tat fella, tit for tat. Please yourself lad, defend Seb, slate Sess, contradict yourself and every which way try and turn it on me, for having the gaul to appreciate a talented footballer in a sea of mediocrity. Sweet jesus.
"For someone who had such a rant over people being critical of the awful Larsson, you ain't exactly backing that up with support for easily our best player. " Now Paolo, I have a bit of time this evening, to reflect and review why I said one or two things. The quote above comes from yourself, I disagreed with you stating Sess is "easily our best player" - it was my opinion he was not our best player last season and listed Mig & Rose as alternatives. On his day Sess is unplayable and I maintain he did not have many of these days last season - and I'm not getting an iota of pleasure from saying that. I certainly do not want to sell Sess, I do not believe I "slated" him either - by his standards he was poor last season, I can only tell it as I saw it and try to be fair and even handed with all players - if that comes across as contradictory then I'm sorry about that. Regardless my time on here is no longer enjoyable as it is clear I'm unable to get my point across without subjecting myself to ridicule and insults.
I would have to agree with you imho sess was not our best player last season imho, as much as i appreciate the mig and rose, looking back it has to be fletch, without injury i think he would have stormed player of the year, however i think it quite rightly went to mig. Now stop being a pussy!
Hopefully I have made my peace with Paolo's Pecs.................would not want to have a lasting "vienetta"with anyone least of all a Sunderland supporter - I should not have called Paolos Pecs foolish and I sincerely apologise for doing that. In closing, Sess is a great player and I hope he does us all proud next season.
All's well mate. A forum ain't a forum without the odd stand off. I withdraw the '****ing idiot' jibe also.
