If we want these players enough and rate them highly enough why don't we just match the freaking asking price? €5mill is small change in the bigger scheme of things. I know there's a budget and financial strategy and such yada yada.

I think that is ambitious, can't see us signing more than two depending on departures. However, IMO, we need LB, DM and AM/WG. I've only left CB off because we have six options there at present (Agger, Toure, Skrtel, Coates, Wisdom and Kelly) but I'd prefer to see Coates and Skrtel leave with one guy (a third signing) coming in. I think we will only have Lucas for DM come 3 September
i agree departures are key. I think right now we are at a point where we have a gap in the squad thats glaring up front and it must be filled. so either: 1. if i am right about no money then we won;t fill it unless we make a gap in the squad elsewhere. 2. we spend the money we are supposed to have. 3. we sell suarez and fund transfer.... which is a bit different as he wants to go. For any sort of progression i feel we need to buy for that forward gap.... we can "get by" at the back i think. getting by is not ideal but i feel papa is too risky anyway and these full backs on loan are not for me.
It will be Gerrard, Allen or Henderson but none of them specialise in the role and have struggled in the past. Plus, why move Gerrard and lessen his impact when he has been so important to the way we play? Do we think Allen, Henderson or Alberto can take on Gerrard's role should he move (or god forbid, he gets injured)...?
Despite clearly stating that I'd like to see improvement at CB and LB, my issue isn't the back line. We are desperate for a DM!
I know, we need a DM! Alberto has been playing in Gerrards role hasnt he? Think everyone assumed hed be further forward. But yeah we need Gerrard to stay fit (like last season) as he is still vitally important to us Like your new bit of your sig by the way!

I much prefer Gerrard further up the pitch and not having to focus as much on defending however I do think Gerrard would be better in the deeper role than he has been before simply because of the arrival of Sturridge. It would allow us to counter much quicker. Again though I think Henderson would be vital to stop Gerrard getting overrun by teams who pack the midfield.
