I'm sure you are right WY it just p*sses me off that they write things like this. I wish we knew what bale's stance was on this as that is the key to the whole deal.

if he wants to go he's doing us a favour by not making it public

That's true. I just want this thing finished one way or the other. It's going to be like the Modric and Berbatov transfers. I want us to make a good start to the season. We hardly ever win our first match. I dont know the stats but I can hardly remember any wins int he last 10 years in our first game

If he wants to go so badly then he should submit a transfer request but it seems he's not prepared to forgo the money or the goodwill of the fans. A good footballer but he really needs to grow a pair and tell the public what his intentions are.

My feeling though is that the deal has already been done and all parties are keeping quiet until we have completed our transfer activity, for obvious reasons. Hence all the Lamela talk

i would hope with the media blackout at the lane that if he is going then everyone affected already knows and are preparing accordingly. I don't see selling a player late as being that bad as long as you have done your in-business already and you aren't left short.
When you sell you main striker, for example, last minute and require a last minute loan to cover yourself is when it hurts you most. Or when you sell your most valuable (at the time) player and seemingly need that cash to bring in replacements.

If Bale goes, we have a team/squad that have spent a fair amount of time together (more in training than in friendlies though).

  6. Well, this morning, I am back to "no," what with the story in The Sun, plus the news that we're making an enquiry for another £20m+ striker. No way can we afford that on top of all the other spending, if a serious deal for Bale hadn't already been struck.

The fact that we've only had 8 home games out of the last 22 on the first day of the season, might have something to do with this, CJ. Where as arsenal have had 14 out of 22.

The striker rumour has been around for a few days mate. IMO it has some legs.

Apparently, Lewis is putting up £50m + all the TV money + cash we've not spend on the likes of Damiao& Moutinho. Supposedly, this in order to build a team that can mount a title challenge, as he feels this is the best chance we've had in years with the managerial changes at other clubs.

it looks like Adebayor will be off to turkey. Despite having heavily upgraded with Soldado, there's no way we can get through another season with only 2 strikers.

    Fingers crossed, eh? :)

Is it even that many? I thought we'd have about 6.

I doubt Lewis has handed Levy and AVB some war chest to spend for the title, that's just '' creative '' thinking from people pretending to be ITK and spreading it via social networks for attention (don't worry not a dig at you Roo ;).

If we're to challenge for the title it won't happen this year, it will take 2-3 years of spending freely while keeping players like Bale and that won't happen under Enic.

Also we have been here before when Levy had Comoli, spending big on David Bentley, Darren Bent, Alan Hutton, etc, we seem to go through periods from being tight with cash to then taking some gambles but all this talk of war chests for the title are just fantasy talk.

Probably Lamela i guess. More a "forward" than a striker in todays world of "nobody has a real position any more"

well we'll soon see wont we?

Including capoue, we've spent net of about £40mill, and there's rumours of plenty more coming in, which'd soon make it a "warchest", should bale stay.

Couple of Bale stories in today's Marca. One story claims that Bale & Levy will meet on Thursday to try and come to an agreement. The other one just repeats the Sun story. Usual bollocks, "a source" and " you promised me if a bigger club came in for me that I could go" Also lays into Levy, claiming that his "obsession" with getting the highest transfer fee on record is ruining Bale's future.

If you look at it logically we never fully strengthened last year to the degree we should of for a club in our position, plus this year we're offloading players so its more a combination of

    - Increased money from TV Deals
    - Backing the new DOF
    - Income from player sales
    - Allowing AVB to build his own squad

If you want to be creative then you can call it a warchest, but thats what people ITK do, dramatise situations to get folk excited as there is very little chance Levy, Lewis, AVB or Baldini have the title on their mind, the main and most realistic goal is for us to be in the champions league each year, title talk is some way off.

whereas in reality the correct thing to say is that Levy's "obsession" with getting the highest transfer fee is exactly what he should be bloody doing

Yep, i've made this point a few times. Last summer we had AVB, who isn't a transfer man, and no DoF. So effectively we had nobody other than Levy to do the deals, consequently we didn't get much done.
Before that we had Harry, who i don't think Levy fully trusted with the purse strings, consequently we didn't get much done.
Now Levy has the manager he wants and he has the DoF that he and his manager wants. The workload has been handed from Levy to Baldini and stuff is getting done and getting done well

IF Hudd has gone for £5m, we haven't even spent the new TV money yet, so that's just normal business for ENIC so far.

I'll only get suspicious they're spending the Bale money if we get people like Willian or Lamela in, not that I know anything about them, and have no particular desire to see them signed, but apparently they play in areas where Bale would usually operate.

IF Bale is staying and Mr Lewis has stumped up £50m, we can still spend about another £55m, without getting our feet wet. I'd want another CB, a LB and a back up keeper out of that, and that'd do me. If we get Halilovic on top of that, I'll start writing hymns of praise to ENIC, assuming we keep all our other major assets.

Again? Levy must be a very busy man. He's meeting someone to try and sort this deal out every bloody day. One day he's in London, then next he's in America and Croatia simultaneously...
