Soto's contract lasts until 30.06.2011, usually if the club want him to stay he would have signed an extension by now, but since they haven't I think we can safely assume he's going to leave on a free this summer.

Also, in other news... these players have returned from their loan spells but we have yet to hear about any deals for them:

    Philipp Degen (VfB Stuttgart)
    Alberto Aquilani (Juventus Turin)
    Emiliano Insúa (Galatasaray)
    Nabil El Zhar (PAOK Saloniki)

Potentially I think all 4 of those players will go this summer, Aquilani may stay but I doubt it and Insua barely made many starts for Galatasaray so I'm not sure how he'll fit in to the team here again.

    Thoughts?

I would like Aquilani and Insua to stay, the other two can go. But as you say, there's a strong chance that they will all go.

i'd give insua a chance to prove himself , hes still young and was rushed into the side due to glass legs and dossena being injured/****. Granted he didn't slot in like young flanagan but i think hes worth a season working with the king and steve clarke

As has been said, I think we should give Insua another go. He wasn't that bad last time, a bit of experience and the feel good factor may make him up his game. I mean he is young for a start.

I'v long said I think Aquaman should be given a proper chance. But the whole situation is starting to get on my nerves to be honest. To me we don't want him, otherwise we would of made it public. We are just making others cough up by playing the waiting game.

El Zhar should go. Like Ngog, not good enough.

Degan is about as usefull as condom vending machine in the Vatican!

Kyriakos - his time is up. But I will remember him as a player who gave his all for us. He may be limited, but he did what he could, and was one of the few who stood up to be counted when we were realy struggling. He was our No.1 goal threat for about a month! Thank you, all the best.

A good punt would be all of them leaving, like you said Little Ze.

I reckon they are all departing,I can't see a future for any of them, they need to be shipped out to create space in the squad for our young and hungry academy players.

Insua is young though, and I think Aqua can be a back up for Meirelles, rather than Spearing, who I think can be cover for Lucas.

Having said that, on their day, I probably rate Aqua higher than Merilles. Although Fernando is proven in this league and level. Aqua needs to be given a chance to gauge this.

I agree with all of that, he was a fighter, someone you need when your back's to the wall, which ours certainly was.
Wouldn't mind him staying as back- up but it's probably better for him to go somewhere where he can play out the rest of his career rather than warm our bench.

I also agree that I'd like to see Aquilani given a chance under the new management.

    Welcome to the site!

I agree Kyriakos should leave for his own benefit, but also to give the likes of Wilson to fit the role, or move Kelly inwards.

I wish they would bloody sort out Aquaman!

The Greek has had an automatic contract extension apparently, this is translated on google from the Greek article:

I'm assuming it is saying that his contract had an year extra if he made 22 appearances in this season, which he has.

Well i'v never seen that before! Strange condition. We can use him for back up then; but even though there is an extention, doesnt mean he won't be sold.

Hmmm, I'm guessing this was translated by a machine.
I like the definite article though, "The Kyrgiakos" <monster>

I've tried regularly to find info on Insua but he's off the radar. As much as I'd like him to stay I think he'll go. I think the sword will be wide and many are due for the chop. FSG weren't happy with squad depth to wages ratio so I've a feeling the potential to grow from 22 to 24 won't be as valued as already doing it at 22.

Soto: £2m and almost legend for his heart. Top buy in an injury crisis. Nice one, Rafa.

Are Juve's offers for Aqua getting lower? I read something about £6m. Bloody chancers.

They'll be asking us to pay them to take him off our hands next.

If he is released in the summer, I wouldn't be too disappointed. However, I will remember him as a player who gave his all to Liverpool Football Club. <ok>

In reference to another poster in this article about an automatic contract extension, I would be pretty happy with this as well. He would be some experienced back-up and in an injury crisis, he could be important to have. :emoticon-0100-smile

So, I ain't too bothered if he leaves and I ain't too bothered if he stays!

Kyrgiakos has loads of useful attributes, mainly that he's strong and tall, great against the hit and hope Stoke teams who pump the ball into the box from set pieces all day long. His only major flaw is his fouling in the box! I think he must have given atleast 3 pens away this year, which takes some doing when you consider he wasn't a regular starter!
