TLF, ignore the negative tripe posted about the police on here, they do a fantastic job in difficult circumstances. They are the first people we all call when in trouble, £25000 a year is a pittance even for a new constable, considering the job they do. Problem in this society is that to many people rely on the state to provide for them, they should use some initiative, get off their butts and do something about it. One only has to look how succesfull immigrant family's have been in setting up business's to realise its possible to change your fortune's in a quick period of time. Its a fact lots of Brits should learn from. There is a lot of red nonsense being talked here, go and ask the eastern European's if they want communism back' they would laugh at you.

    'Worst comment' maybe Graduate?<doh>

Perhaps I should have omitted the word 'wow' form my original comment as it may seem to some as if i was belittling the two police officers killed, my intention was to highlight that statistically deaths in the Police force are extremely rare and shouldn't be used as some sort of danger bartering over wages. Very few Police officers / firefighters lose their life in the line of duty (excluding motoring accidents I don't believe South Wales Police has lost a single officer on duty since records began in 1900). People do far more dangerous jobs for far less money, that is a fact.

The top brass in the police/fire service etc earn far more than £70k a year.

It's just like you said DaiswanHuwsmate, if they don't like their wages they should find better jobs.

    Get over yourself.

Where have I criticised the Police? It is not my fault if you are too foolish to understand my point.

you are the only one who understood your point though monty, You sound like you have an axe to grind with the police that they don't deserve what they get...they deserve more for what they do whatever job they do in the police...

You were the one who belittled the death of officers, go and speak to the parents of the 2 young police women murder with the ' wow only 5 been killed ' and see how they react. You are a very loathsome nasty person.

As I have already said I wasn't belittling the deaths of those women. I either shouldn't have included the quote or worded it better.

What the guy was saying is that junior Police constables deserve to earn £30k per year because they face mortal danger. My point was that in reality death rates in the police force are much lower than in many other lesser paid professions. At no point have I criticised the police. Throwing personal insults around just makes you look like a fool. If anything I have said is untrue point it out.

I have no axe to grind with the Police. I know loads of serving/retired officers and they are all good people. Have even dealt professionally with many high ranking officers and they are very grounded people.

IMO the pay scales are wrong though. A 21 yr old novice can earn £30k when a Sergeant with 20yrs experience may only get £37k. Starting pay should be lower with more scope for experience/qualification based wage increases, ie the novice should earn less and the Sergeant more. This isn't just my view though, the Police Federation think the same and are implementing such a system from September.

What you said is that your 'junior blue collar' job should be paid as much as a trainee / junior police officer. It's not just about coppers dying dude. Its about the danger they find themselves in daily. Helping motorists by the side of a busy motorway, settling domestics, picking up pissed up violent tw*ts on a Saturday night.

Dont get me wrong, I can take the police as much as I can leave them. But you cannot dispute the predicaments they must find themselves in on a daily basis.

Now if your comute on the tube to the job in London is half as dodgy, with the risk of physical injury or personal abuse, then yeah, I can see how you feel a bit hard done by whilst you sit in your office on a lesser wage...... *rolls eyes*

I started that job years ago, thinking about it and correcting for inflation I probably started on quite a bit more than a junior plod.

I don't disagree with much you're saying. Most difficult thing about being in the Police is the mental anguish of constantly dealing with scum....*rolls eyes*

£30k is not a great deal for any jobs starting salary in 2013. If the mp's think their pay should be a basic £73k then why should others think they are not worth that for their basic pay. I would not get out of bed for anything less if i was younger ...........

I would love to know what you do for a living to think you should be better paid in a starting role over a new police officer. You said yourself you got student loans to pay back, awww diddums, who's fault is that, what makes you more deserving of a higher wage, what do you actually do for me that deserves a higher wage? Do you work behind a computer?

Oh wonderful, a doctor, got plenty of experience with them, think they know best, that what has been wrong with me the past 5 years is either in my head, the most easiest of things to diagnose without any actual care to the actual truth, 4 years I suffered whilst doctors told me there was nothing wrong, or that it was something "easy" to blame ot on, I know now what it is, and with a doctor that didn't have his head shoved so far up his backside, it wouldn't have ruined 4 years of my life to diagnose it, and even then it wasn't the doctor that has been in practice for years, or the flash young doctor, but the young female doctor that for once in my time being ill sat down, listened to me, wrote everything down, and found out what was actually wrong with me within 2 weeks.

If there is one profession I have very little time for, it is that of doctors. The majority based on my own experience are so far up their own backsides its beyond belief. 4 years of hell I went through, the last year has been bliss in comparison since 1 doctor finally sat and actually listened and not think they know it all.

I get the distinct impression your one of those type of doctors. But hey, I could be wrong.

So, the Police hate the Doctors and the Docotors hate the Police ?? when I watch casualty on the telly it always looks like they get on fine, especially when the Police need to take statements from injured people...<whistle>

Policemen ? good and bad everywhere, need to cut down on the dougnuts though.

Doctors ? good and bad everywhere, need to practice a lot more on the handwriting skills .

    :)

I'm glad you found a good doctor in the end.

I am not a GP, although I did work in medical science.
