    TRANSFER GOSSIP.

Deadline day is approaching and Wednesday's national newspapers are packed with transfer stories. Here are three that have made it into the Gossip column:

Manchester City are preparing to make a final £20m bid to sign Real Madrid's 30-year-old defender Pepe. (Daily Mail)

Chelsea are considering a move for Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto'o, 32. Blues boss Jose Mourinho worked with the Cameroon international while at Inter Milan. (Guardian)

Arsenal are considering moves for Swansea forward Michu, 27, and Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, 27, as their hopes of signing 26-year-old Liverpool forward Luis Suarez fade. (Daily Mirror)

The whole Suarez things is laughable really. He's burnt his bridges at Liverpool and they are in danger of holding onto an unhappy player.

same with rooney and bales going the same way too.

once these move (which they inevitably will) other transfers should start to move along although none to do with us....

My understanding is Eriksen, Alderweireld, Ince and the next Lukaku will all arrive soon. My contact said something about a Friday announcement......................

The Suarez situation is complicated. I think Real Madrid may sell Modric or Benzema to Man U, Rooney goes to Arsenal (Man U see as a lesser threat than Chelsea), and Real end up signing Suarez and Bale (Contreau and/or Di Maria goes to Spurs) . Neither Spurs nor Liverpool seem keen on either moving to a club in the PL.

Is it good though that the league loses Bale to La Liga. You'll have 3 of the best in Europe all plying their trade there (Ronaldo, Messi, Bale). Is our league weakened by the absence of any of these great players?

I do think these big moves will trigger a flow of transfers. You'd like to think we'll be picking up scraps from somewhere but it doesn't seem likely. Pards must be tired of trawling out the party line with "we're waiting on other transfers", "Joe is looking but its not easy", "we're still in the market", "I'm happpy with what I've got but if the right player is available" etc etc. He must be dying to say "No we won't signing anyone cause we're a right bunch of tight bastards running it like a Sports Direct store" <laugh>

Talk in Turkey of a move by us for Manuel Fernandes. Cannot be anything other than a replacement for Cabaye.

The Aldereiweld story seems odd as well. No quotes at all, yet a headline on some website about us being in the driving seat. Somehow don't buy it - he'd be after a bigger club at least, if not guarantees of first team football. Be nice to think we could effectively have him, Saylor, MYM and Colo but our opportunity to do that was LAST Summer.....

I can't see any legs in it at all. It would be a fantastic quartet of centre backs but as you say I can't see him fancying a watching brief with Colo/MYM/Saylor and then Debuchy at right back. Ajax are a massive club. They've supposedly signed his replacement but I can see a move elsewhere. I don't think we'll be in for a centre back. I think they'll just go with Willo and Streete as 4th and 5th choice which is fine for a club of our standing.

I saw the Fernandes link. I'm not keen, he has done well in a weak league in Turkey but struggled elsewhere. He moved there for 1.75m from Valencia. They paid 12m!! Tells you how impressed they were. Can't even get in the Portugese squad most of the time. Bring a bit of flair and fancy tricks but would he deliver much? Free transfer so obviously good value and I could see that being up Mikes street if Cabaye goes (which I do expect).

The Journal claims Kinnear has £20m burning a hole in his pocket. Maybe if he'd been involved in football for more than 3 months this past decade he might know what to do with it. From my understanding, a £20m cheque doesn't tend to collect many points...

It's believable, because we bid £15m for PEA and £7m for Gomis. Given that City and Blackpool will accept between £5m-£8m for Sinclair & Ince respectively, what precisely could the hold up be? That would still leave more than enough to pick up someone good. Again I ask - is Giroud a certainty not to come? We have already tried for him once, he isn't an Arsenal type of player, didn't have the best of seasons (comparatively speaking) and is under threat because of at least 1 if not 2 impending transfers up front and Walcott wanting to play through the middle.

Wonder if City would take a loss on Dzeko?!

I thought Di Santo was a free transfer this summer? Surprised Mike doesn't fancy a bit of that to bolster the front line. No world beater but the lad is a decent option to provide some competition. Cabaye out, Di Santo and Fernandes in. Mikes three card shuffle to pocket 20m.

They might take a loss on Dzeko, but would he take a loss on his wages
this is what bugs me about footballers
they say that they all want to play first team football, but won't drop their wages to satsfy that need

I think you're aiming too high. The french link with Giroud may appeal but he won't be moving. He and Podolski had decent first seasons. They'll improve again this year. Wenger will want to add one superstar so he can get back to having the options he had when successful with Henry, Bergkamp, Suker, Kanu or Henry, Bergkamp, Wiltord, Kanu or Henry, Bergkamp, Wiltord, Kanu, Reyes. They have been sleeping for years because of that stadium debt. Now they are free of it they'll be looking to strengthen not weaken.

Dzeko would never consider us. By all accounts he has featured heavily for Pelligrini to and he likes him.

To be honest, I was surprised when Debuchy, MYM and Sissoko all came. Not only for their quality but the ludicrously low prices we paid. Appreciate Dzeko is an absurd suggestion, he's a striker who'll always be involved in the CL. Probably the same for Giroud now - but I just cannot see who else we're going to get, unless they're from left field completely. I think we had a list of strikers who could be played wide which started with PEA, included Remy, Ideye Brown, and maybe others. We managed to get Remy so just don't need the historic bunch we were after. Bent I think was purely a replacement for Shola if we could get him cheap enough, we were just trying to steal him in the hope no-one else would. We still might sign him before the window closes, but we must still be after that striker who can hold the ball up. Every team hoping for a modicum of success has needed one, it's not about hoofball. Look at RvP, Drogba, Henry, Rooney, Suarez - they have different abilities, they're not all battering rams like Drogba, but you can also get the ball up to them and take a breather. Sure, we're not in that league, but that's the kind of player we need. I might be wrong, but doesn't Luuk De Jong play a bit like that? Not a "Bony" but a player who can bring it down and hold onto it. That's what we need. Who else is there, that we may know of?

    - Shane Long?
    - Lacina Traore?
    - Ahmed Hassan? (the Rio Ave lad from Egypt who looked tidy enough)
    - Eder? (ruled out because of injury, allegedly)
    - Artem Dzuyba?
    - Heung Min-Son?

Utterly random. Looking at it, I just don't see Kinnear doing much. All I envisage is him spending the next 5 days trying to pronounce them properly, giving up then handing Alan Pardew a "suggested" formation next Monday. Monday night we'll get tanked something-0, Pardew will blame it on a lack of firepower and we'll be back to square one.

Not trying to piss on the possibles but it doesn't look good. I literally can only think of Di Santo who is available and won't cost a bomb. They do need to help Pardew out here.

Di Santo > Ameobi, is all I'll say to that!

So £20m in the pocket. £20m on the way (Cabaye). Ince, McCarthy, Bent plus one more striker. £10m-£15m in the kitty ready for our regular January dealings. Good Summer?

I think its more likely we'll sell Cabaye, then sign Di Santo and Fernandes. Mike pockets the 40m and Joe gets a pat on the back. <laugh>

Is it me, or is Cabaye's reputation preceding him a little? Or have I missed something?

Very very poor last season and I would be worried about spunking 20m plus but these big clubs don't mind the risk. I still think he is top class when his mind is right and the team around him is playing well. Not the type to lead or grab the game for you though.

Di Santo has signed for Werder Bremen today so we won't be getting him.

I see there's more movements over at Anzhi with Eto'o and Diarra trying to cancel contracts. Again, Traore would seem to be a good answer IF there was movements on the fee and wages.
