but what exactly is heritage? what is our past? slinking along the bottom of the league division 4 trying to stay in the football league. it seems to me like we have two choices, we can support a change of name and see what happens. OR we can try to hold onto the past... and keep bumping along the bottom of the forth division - cos thats what we know.
You know **** all about our history if you think it consists of "bumping along the bottom of the forth division".
Bloody Hell, at one time we were skulking around in the slime at the bottom of the primordial soup. Fourth Division was luxury....Premier League is Nirvana. Pick a name....
oh yeah? I am sorry, I forgot that we were actually sat at the top of the table. sheesh ****nut! I wasn't being literal you thick bastard! you want me to name every date of when we were relegated/promoted? I was talking in general - some people are only so bright! Then again you probably can't help it can you??.. aw poor dear. there there.
Believe me - Heritage and History are not the same thing - I have a (somewhat pointless) degree in it! Heritage is more a sanitized, idealized version of history - a modern day narrative based on the past. For example our great escape wasn't because we were ****, it was a triumph of endeavour in the face of adversity. Fact is it was both, but the emphasis is the escape, rather than the turgid ****e served up at BP for the first half of the season that put us in that position in the first place. You get my drift? O/P has a point though - today's decisions affect tomorrows heritage. If the name change heralds a new era of hitherto unheard of success then it will be seen as a masterstroke. If it fails and we end up back as Hull City AFC bumbling about the lower-leagues again it will be remembered as a terrible idea but at least we got out identity back....
You both appear to equate the club's name with 'failure', so that the only way to escape that failure and embrace a 'new dawn' is to change our name. What about the possibility/option of retaining the name Hull City AFC/FC and achieving success on the field? You both would discount that - in my view, mistakenly.
Heritage is more than trophies and success. It is about the team my father has supported and also my grandfather. The name represents the generations of Tigers fans that have supported the club before us and also the community it serves.
Shock horror.......In order to restore faith in the club, the owners are to register Hull City Tigers Ltd as Rungames Ltd it's former name, before it was registered as Hull City Association Football Club (Tigers) Limited. Like **** they are, but so much for heritage eh. Lets stop worrying about Hull City Tigers Ltd and consentrate on the future loss of City from the team name. For me that is the important bit.
HOW TO MAKE YOURSELF LOOK REALLY STUPID - A GUIDE 1. Write something completely wrong. 2. Wait until someone corrects you. 3. Say "I wasn't being literal" and call them a "thick bastard" to add a tasty glaze of irony.
Hull City AFC Melu Lets stop worrying about Hull City Tigers Ltd and consentrate on the future loss of City from the team name. For me that is the important bit. I think I'm with you on this Melu. Although I think any change is unnecessary - and won't in itself bring success - I do believe that the reference to City (along with Hull of-course) is the critical element in our name. I've been advocating the need for compromise on a few different threads for a few days now and this could well be the solution, although I suspect that there will still be plenty who oppose even a removal of the reference to AFC and I would continue to respect their views. In my opinion, the mistake the Allams have made is that they have forecast the removal of "City". On the other hand, this may be a masterly example of negotiating brilliance on their part - "OK, we hear you. We respect your views and the heritage and history of the Club. We will meet you halfway - maybe more than halfway given we're only talking about AFC which no-one ever actually verbalises - and guarantee that we will never change the name from HULL CITY. The problem of-course is that I keep advocating this to fellow supporters without being able to pass it on to the club. Maybe someone closer to the action can.
Everything is about your history- family, work, clubs you follow. You learn about yourself, your country & it;s people & in this case your club from it's history & heritage. It's immensly important. You can't just shrug it off. Ours has been shat on for a betting company it seems.
