I was thinking back to when I first discovered football and I just wondered if anyone ever got SHOOT magazine and remembers the free Football League Tables that you could alter and keep up to date every Saturday afternoon after the results came in? It took for ever and if there was a mid-week game it was murder. City never featured much in the pictures or articles because we were in Division 3 or 4 most of the time. Is it still on the go in any form?

I think it is still on the go, but I'm not sure.

The only footie mags I ever read were, surprisingly, Roy Of The Rovers. My dad has absolutely hundreds of them, and my school also had a load in the library. Brilliant they were.

I always preferred Match magazine, I bought a couple of Shoot but it seemed more like a comic than about football. Match always had a team photo in the centre or back page, I remember a couple of Hull City team posters, don't know if I've still got all that stuff stashed away somewhere or if I slung it out. But it does bring back memories like collecting Pannini stickers. Do they still do the sticker albums?

Charles Buchan's Football Monthly was great - it was amazing if a City player turned up in the photographs and I even got a bit excited when players from another team with similar kit to ours were included.

I think I once had a picture of Derek Dougan on my bedroom wall. He played for Wolves but at 6 or 7 years old that was close enough to City for me.:emoticon-0111-blush

I'd buy it now and again. I mainly remember getting the annuals for Christmas.

I'd more often spend my pocket money on pannini stickers, commando comics or whatever the passing fad was. Garbage pail kids for example.

Considering I had a completely different idea as to the nature of "shoot" magazine when I first clicked on this thread, you can see how this post was initially extremely disturbing....

    Thankfully, I get it now....<whistle>

I loved the posters, had them on the wall at uni. You to the point where I took all teams out except city and just moved us into the correct league position each week.keeping every team in the right place was a nightmare!

As a nipper in the early 90s just discovering football, my granddad would buy me Shoot magazine and my brother Match magazine every Wednesday.

    Great for kids.

I used to study the league tables for ages. Everyone likes a league table.

I used to keep the ladders up to date whilst living in HK. Missed one edition one year so only had 3 official leagues as presume they gave the tabs away over multiple editions to increase sales. Made my own that year from back of cereal packet

I bought it from the off and had every every issue from 1969 to maybe 73 or 74. During this time time we were always the old D2. I remember getting into a row with my mum one day and she ripped the recently arrived Shoot in two. Sacrilege!! I spent hours messing around with the league ladders. I brought all my Shoot magazines to the US in 1990, and 23 years later they are sitting in a cupboard somewhere gathering dust. Stupid really as I have never looked at them in close to 40 odd years but at one point in my life they meant everything.

The other thing I remember from the same era was the Sun World Cup 1970 book with photos of world football stars. You would have to save up so many stamps from the newspaper and then send stamps in to claim the photos. I didn't read it but would have all my customers on my paper-round give me the stamps if they got the Sun. That collection came over to the US too. No doubt sitting in the same cupboard...
