Will probably determine whether the "club legend" is still our manager come October. If we are down the bottom on 21 September, and then turn in the same performance v Millwall that we served up last season, I can see the owners he is not speaking to suddenly finding their voices...to send CP down the road.

    Before anyone asks, no, I haven't played for England like Powell. I haven't got a FIFA A licence like he has. I didn't even go to the Scouts. But here are a couple of suggestions for him to turn things around;

    1. Get an experienced keeper in on loan to put pressure on Hamer. Our No.1 admitted in public at the open day that he deserved a kick up the arse last season and being dropped. Maybe he is the type of player to get easily complacent ?

    2. Dispense, once and for all, with League Two chaff like Danny Green. His performance v Boro reminded me of Shane Warne when asked about Monty Panasaer. " he hasn't played 40 Tests...he has played the same Test 40 times". And that is Green for us. A mildly promising cameo off the bench...hopes falsely raised...and then 5 games of utter guff before dropped again.

    3. Get Jordan Cousins in alongside Hughes in central midfield vBarnsley. The old pro can sit and hold, Cousins will bring much needed energy to the middle and more importantly can actually link our midfield and attack.

    4. Finally. Please "Sir Chris"...use your substitutes to influence a game, not react to it. Don't stand their watching the oppo manager before acting. Accept that if players like Gower are 15 yards behind their man after half an hour, they are probably knackered. Take them off.

I have been at our opening 2 games and at the moment we resemble a Dads Army 11, warming up for their annual medical to get in the Home Guard. Come on Chris, pull your finger out.

    P.S

Good to read so many old friends on here.

Good to see you back again old chap. Its been what two years?

You will recall that I have absolutely no footballing nous whatsoever and still regard Les Berry as the greatest footballer ever to lace his boots for CAFC.

I think the problem may also be Curbishley-like, our Chris is just too nice a bloke to drop the dead wood and move onto the yoof. I also think our preseason was a complete wash out.

    Hello mate.

Discovering this site today has been like stumbling on a bunch of mates who have been locked in the garden shed for the last two years. All the old favourites are here. I feel like I have died and woken up in SE7 Heaven.

I recommend to those who haven't seen it the Intothevalley site.

Good to see you Vol au Vent. And sadly, i agree with your post. We need a shake up soonish, and the chaff needs to be politely shown the door.

Good to read your contribution again , V-o-V. Any idea what happened to Dick van Dyke's Dungarees?
I've got fed up banging on about our young home-grown players (kids to some). I was starting to feel like a stuck gramophone record.

Yep, apparently Cousins had a great pre-season. I watch the under-21-s a lot and the under-18's when I can. Watch out also for Diego Poyet. I reckon that when he gets a chance in the first-team he will stay in it. Unfortunately I won't be able to see a league game until the 31st. Wonder what the team will be then?

Maybe he is the type of player to get easily complacent ? Just been on CL and apparently Football Rumours have mentioned Lee Camp who is available, certainly agree with this (especially if CP didnt have the confidence to play Pope against Oxford)

    2. Dispense, once and for all, with League Two chaff like Danny Green. His performance v Boro reminded me of Shane Warne when asked about Monty Panasaer. A mildly promising cameo off the bench...hopes falsely raised...and then 5 games of utter guff before dropped again. Just worries me slightly that we only really have Pritchard and Wilson to cover that Right-Mid slot, and its only really Pritch who I have faith in

Subs are always gonna be the hardest thing to call in Football, rarely do I think there is a great time to introduce someone

Great to catch up with so many good posters again. Over on CL they think erudition is a glue.

The only old sparring partner I can't see is a2c <party> I know he posts on CL but what about here ?

    Regards

    Nick

There is a remarkable similarity between a2c and North London Addick (NLA) on CL.

The sort of bloke who gets up just in time for Cash in the Attic every day.

He has appeared here under a couple of different guises: "Charlton Pat" and "The Red Flag". Also made a contribution as himself on the BBC forum.

Ackers regularly posts on IntotheValley as jonkool.

Last I read , he was trying to personally finance David Beckham's signing for Charlton by recycling Pot Noodle cartons.

Your always a delight to read Nick, but the notion that all our manager's have been the reason for our failures has been given too much weight by yourself with all those "Sack the manager" threads, which go right back to the Curbs era... Probably why you like ITV forum, the place where hypocrisy is not just the norm, but openly rejoiced.
Dickplumb... I think it's fairly obvious Nick is "LesReedsBestMate"on there...

Regarding the remarkable similarity between a2c and North London Addick (NLA) on CL... I've no idea, but if their general wisdom is that CAFC are not worthy of a rich takeover, must not have ambitions above a 27,000 seat stadium, and that their friend Murray, despite his many shortcomings, is beyond criticism because "he gave us all his money & got us back to The Valley, then you probably have your man... Though having said that, these self proclaimed "half glass full" posters are aplenty...

Nick, whatever happened with the Italian takeover... Were they seen flying out of he Valley at the Due Diligence stage, asking price or what...?
