Thanks for your reply Roo. Basically what you are saying is, he is getting on a bit, he is mate's with Harry and is taking the easy option in terms of not having to relocate. Palace have just been promoted to the PL. They are London based. He hasn't played for them. Why isn't he signing for them? I'll tell you why, because they don't want him. What about Fulham? Good established PL team. Why isn't he signing for them? The same. They don't want him.

Did you see the way we lost out on the signing of Gary Hooper? Good player, only 26, ambitious enough to want to play for his country etc.... Why did we lose out on him? Because a PL team (ie. Norwich) wanted him as much as we did and given the choice between the two, there was only one choice. Will I tell you why Scott Parker is coming to us? It is simply because no other team in the PL want him. Simple as that.

Meh. He's a decent player still I suppose (although not getting any younger), but for this position, we literally don't need him. Would rather the money be spent strengthening another area of the team.

any championship club will want him, but how many can afford him? not many, a lower premier league like palace and ffc see better value somewhere else, his wages are high, so financially not a good move, for parker he is settled in surrey owns half of oxshott, so he wont want to move away, and prolongs his career

I don't think it's all quite as clear cut as that, Finglas.

Just because Fulham and Palace don't/didn't want him, that doesn't mean he's not of the standard to play premier league football. - He just might not have been the type of player they are targeting or needed.

He's 32. He doesn't need to prove himself as a footballer and is probably doing what he feels is the best move for him, as his footballing days are coming to an end. He's had the opportunity to work with someone who he's very fond of. He could be part of a team that brings you guys back up into the prem, at which point he might retire on a high.

If you were Scott Parker would you go and play for Palace? I know I wouldn't. They are relegation fodder, which if it's his last season, will be a miserable one.

Can't understand all the negativity on here from both ours and Spurs fans. Parker, for £2 - £3.5m, would be a great signing for us, he would be an automatic upgrade on anything we've already got in that position and would be the leader we've been missing for the past few years.

As for him suddenly being a poor player since his injury, from what I can see he made his first start after the injury at the beginning of January and then started in all but 1 game (probably a suspension) for the rest of the season in a team that narrowly missed out on a Champions League place?

If he was so terrible why wasn't he dropped? AVB seems to think that he was good enough to keep in a Champions League chasing team and the injury couldn't have been causing him too many problems if he was playing 90 minutes most games since his return?

I would love to see him at Rangers, hope this happens.

Think he will be a good signing just don't understand why we bought Henry for 1m now 2m for parker when we really need some cover upfront and in defence

That's exactly what we were only a few short months ago. Once again, a has been player is using us as their last pay day. We are becoming a retirement home for cast offs.

Apart from being slightly concerned as to why he is coming to us, I'm with Nuts. I understand the concern, but think it is misplaced in this instance.

Oh yes please Beth, that makes perfect sense to me.....

well said. <ok>

Or it could be that you've got a manager that a lot of players respect and can draw some very good quality to your club? - hence why you're hearing about Defoe and Townsend too?

Of course he's thinking about cash, name a footballer who doesn't? But at least Scott will give you his all for the money you pay him each week, which is more than can be said for others. :)

This is an important point in view of the shirkers we've had over the past two years...

Parker can shine in the Championship, and be a fantastic influence in the dressing room. My only concern is injuries. Just hope Harry's past loyalties aren't a blinker him when the report on Scott's medical comes in. Have a feeling he's coming whatever...

I hope you are right Roo. I have no doubt Parker will give his best. My concern relates to whether his legs will hold up to the pace of Championship football. He is almost 33 remember. As you say, his attitude would be far better than some others we have had recently.

I would be far less concerned with Defoe as I think he is still a top class player and the vast majority of QPR fans would love us to sign him. Townsend we know is good and is another one most of us would love to sign. He is the type of player we should go after in terms of age.

Is Harry the big draw for these type of players or is it the money we are paying?? I haven't decided which yet. I'll tell you after I have seen them play a few matches, if they sign.

Good luck to Tottenham this year and thanks for your views.

Totally this, we need a midfield general, someone to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and who isn't afraid to muck in and do the less pretty stuff. Parker alongside Ali would be immense. Why the worry about money? TF and co are bank rolling this and they aren't going anywhere soon.

And as for people who say we have too many midfileders I call bullshit on this -

Gone
Park, Taarabt, Derry

going
Granero, Mbia, Diakite

Barton - who knows but probably going as well.

A great signing if it comes through

A midfield involving Parker, Barton and Hoillet is far too for the Championship and it means Karl Henry can get back on the bench.

Really chuffed and hopeful this comes through

Try tell Giggs, Scholes, Lampard and Gerard that 32 classifies them as over the hill. Ridiculous.
Parker is not a shirker. He's an honest hard working pro. A Derry type player except ten times better.
For the last two years we lacked real leadership on the pitch. Hill tried but did not have the quality or pedigree to match some of our pre madonnas who needed a right kick up the ass. Parker and Dunne are real old style professionals. No bull••ite. We need somebody to dictate the pace of the game for us. Parker can do this. M'Bia and Diakite haven't featured and are obviously off, Jenas, Granero and Barton could quickly follow. Park is already gone. Our current surplus of midfielders could be gone very very quickly.
If we paid 3 million for Parker and we got two good years out of him then that's decent business in the current market IMO. What other Champ club will have a player anywhere near his quality. The answer is simple, none.
The point made up above about all players maximising every contract they get (including their last) is a great point. At least with Parker, you know he will burst a gut to earn it.

Absolutely and with AJ and Austin up front it's pretty mouth watering if you ask me.
