Have to agree it nuts. Cant believe we would pay 3.5 mil plus the wages, he has had repetitive Achilles tendon problems for the last 4 years. Not sure i believe the figures at all, surely TF would not sanction the expenditure stated after all that has happened. 3.5 mill to buy + 70K a week = over £10mil over 2 years for Parker with no sell on value at all at the end, if I suggested the equivalent of this in my business to my boss he would punch me in the face and lock me in my desk. Maybe Harry has insisted his decision is backed... Parker also has the same agent as JS Park and Anton Ferdinand, that guy must ****ing love us.
We'll have wait and see re the numbers (a fee of £2 million was quoted elsewhere), but this is very much a Redknapp decision - TF just hasn't said no.
Must admit I'm not sure how I feel about this signing......he was a good player a couple of seasons ago, but that achilles injury could adversly affect his tireless running game.....I suppose as a holding midfielder he only has to protect the back four and push up a little beyond the half way line, he is not going "box to box".....Does make the signing of Henry a little mystifying.....but I suppose in Harold we have to trust and on paper we do look to have a decent squad...a little top heavy in midfield, still a few weeks to balance up with areas we need to cover. Will be interesting to see Flyers squad profile now.....
I think this is a great signing (if it comes off). 2-3.5M is not a lot of money for the experience and ability he has. Players don't go from brilliant to past it overnight. The one (!) Spuds supporter who has posted here is obviously an expert who represents all Spuds fans
Very true but we can only deal with the now ... we are currently in a play off position and Spurs have no points ... anything could happen
Sorry TJ, but I have to disagree with you here. He might be 32 and might have not had a brilliant season for us last year, but that's cause he didn't suit AVB's style. Very similar to Assou-Ekotto, who also struggled, despite being great under Redknapp's supervision. Scott has been a solid player for years and he'll be superb at QPR as long as injuries don't kick in. It's a great signing. He's still a premier league player and his experience will benefit QPR massively in the championship. As someone else says, if he can help them get promoted (which i think he'll be an integral part of), the money spent will be well worth it. However, there's now also rumours that you want Andros Townsend and have offered £3.5m + add on's. We're asking for £6.5m. If you lot can pull that deal off as well, you're going to have a very good side this season. Personally, I feel Andros deserves a chance with us.
Totally agree, even with your view on Andros. Still I think he might not be in AVB's plans for this season.
Not often I disagree with you Roo but standing by what I said this time! Think Parker is a very poor player since his injury. I hope I'm wrong as he gave everything for us but I don't see it. I do agree on Townsend though, hope he is given a change with us unless we sign someone better. £6m is too cheap is Downing is worth £5m, he's much better than him and 7 years younger.
Parker has shown over the years he can control football matches ... so far we have looked very dominant in our three games ... That is exactly what is required to get out of this league we did it before with Adel's craft and skill on top of Faurlin and Derry's grunt. Parker will drive the team and most of the games he plays in. He has stuff still to prove and passion on tap. Sidwell V Parker there would only be one winner.... then look up the midfields of other championship clubs anyone you think tops Parker? ... then he is a good signing
Everyone's talking about what this means for the likes of Mbia and Granero. Presumably they're off, but we already sort of knew that. What does this say for Jenas? I'm tempted to splash some cash on his Hull transfer. Currently him and Faurlin would be my first choice CM's- but with parker coming in you'd have to say he'll replace Jenas. Faurlin is a little more creative than both of them
Thanks for letting us know your opinion Roo. Your input is very valid. I have a genuine question for you. If, he is still a Premier League player, why isn't there a queue of PL teams knocking on your door to sign him?? Why is he dropping down to play in the Championship?? Sorry, that's two questions.
TJ, he's not going to be playing for a club battling for top 4 in the premier league anymore....It's a completely different scenario. (No offence meant there QPR fans)
He has a family, he's settled, he probably wants to stay in London, he's played for all the other London clubs (just about LOL) and he gets on well with Harry Redknapp. - They are all good enough reasons to play your football just down the road. He's 32, why would he want to relocate now?
