Evening Standard: Harry Redknapp hopes to complete the signing of Scott Parker for Queens Park Rangers before the end of the week. The midfielder is no longer wanted at White Hart Lane but QPR and West Ham have both been trying to purchase the 32-year-old this summer. Spurs are believed to be prepared to sell the England international for around £3.5million but his salary of £70,000-a-week has been an issue for both clubs. Rangers manager Redknapp, who signed Parker from West Ham two years ago when he was in charge of Tottenham, admitted last month he feared QPR might be priced out of a move. But negotiations have stepped up in the past few days and Redknapp hopes the former Charlton and Chelsea star will soon be at Loftus Road. Parkerâs career at White Hart Lane suffered a major blow last season when he was ruled out for four months with an Achilles injury. He has dropped further down the pecking order this summer with the club signing international midfielders Paulinho and Etienne Capoue. QPR are desperate to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt and see Parker as providing great experience and work-rate in *central midfield. Another potential new signing, Duvan Zapata, has passed his medical as part of a £6.4m move from Estudiantes. The 22-year-old striker will have a work permit hearing on Thursday or Friday, which will decide if the transfer can go ahead. He does not meet the conditions for a visa because he has yet to be capped by Colombia but QPR hope to exploit the ruling regarding âspecial talentâ. Even if the deal goes through, none of Rangersâ strikers will be leaving. Redknapp said: âThis is a tough league; Saturday, midweek, Saturday, midweek â I still need four strikers. [With] Bobby Zamoraâs injury record and Andy Johnsonâs you still need four strikers so we can rotate."
Levy trying to make up the money he is going to lose by not selling Bale!!!! Should be no more than £1m on a 12 month contract and then review depending on outcome......
If he signs, I don't doubt for a minute that Parker will give everything for HR and the Club. 3.5 million is peanuts if we get back into the PL, although of course that has to be tempered by his contract.
Done, apparently. He's still a very good holding player and he'll do an excellent job for you under Redknapp, I'm sure. Hardworking, professional, positive and squeeky clean. Gets a good reception at all of his old clubs, even when the moves haven't worked out for him. Good luck to him and yourselves.
Bit worried about this. You'd assume it means Barton is 100% leaving? If that's the case, then we're likely to get a few mill for him, which should keep the balance of payments in check. Please don't be anything more than a one year deal..
Regarding Zapata, it is a strange one. QPR know all about work permits having been stung by them at least once before. I just can't decide whether they are giving it a go because they think it's worth a punt or if they 'know' that we will be more successful this time. Otherwise just seems a collosal waste of effort and energy.
Im sure villa fans were probably thinking the same with Benteke who no one had heard of, hes since multiplied in value and will make them a very tidy profit. Parker will be the next player we cant wait to get rid of in 2 years time when time has caught up with him and he does a great impression of JSP not getting near the opposition. A young player can always increase in value, an old player actually holds negative value as you have to pay to get them to go away, I wouldnt sign Parker on a free unless it was for 1 year.
The difference was the Brazilian was a loan with a view to buy, we were told a permanent signing would have gone through but not a loan. This guy is a permanent so should have a better chance but I still dont think it will happen as we arent in the PL now.
On WATRB they think he's having a medical this afternoon? According to "sky italia" and some other source

Crazy signing imo. We need a left-back and centre-forward. Any chance of a bit of old-fashioned scouting?
I know I'm out on my own with this but I think it's a good signing. Hard working and honest pro. He can still give us 3 good years and like it or not is still considered by many as one of the top midfielders in the country.
