Malcolm McDowell made this just before a Clockwork Orange, I first saw it when I was about 11 or 12.

 

Have you ever seen Britannia Hospital Dev? It's the third in his trilogy. The first two, If and Oh Lucky Man are classic films. The final part does not quite live up to them. It's worth seeing once as what happens to Mick Travis is utterly bizarre.

 

I've heard of it but never seen it, o'lucky man came out in the cinemas just after Clockwork Orange and I saw it years later.

As for a Clockwork Orange, I went to see it 5 times in a week at the Parade in Dennistoun, I was only about 15 but I was so delighted about getting in the first time that I just had to go agaian and again. An utterly brilliant piece of cinema, I actually feel sorry for people who have not seen this on a big screen.

 

Yeah A Clockwork Orange is an excellent piece of cinema. Unfortunately I have never seen it in the cinema. Kubrick had banned it before I was old enough. I bought a VHS copy with crappy subtitles in Belgium as it was really hard to access here for a long time. Burgess himself described the adaptation of his novel as brilliant and he was a right fussy bugger.

 

It's pretty typical of Kubrick. Just like 2001 and Barry Lyndon this really has to be seen on a big screen to get the full impact. One of these days it will be on at the GFT, don't miss it, it's dazzling.

 

I missed it a few years back when they were showing it. I have seen the other two at the cinema and I would agree with you.

Malcolm McDowell is an extremely watchable actor.

 

I've always liked him, never seen the Flashman Movie (Royal Flash) though, i'm going to have to get a hold of it.

 

Not only have I seen it on the big screen (Filmhouse) but I saw a fantastic stage version at the Edin. Fest a couple of years back.


ps I've also seen 2001 on the big screen (Filmhouse again) in it's original 70mm print and soundtrack. Mind blowing!

 

I watched Royal Flash the other night on LoveFilm, pretty bad and Malcolm McDowell is miscast, he's far too small to be Harry Flashman.
