    Hello !!!!

    You alright peeps?

Leeds have rejected a 1.3m big for McCormack <yikes> Blimey!!! Could anyone have seen that happening under Bates regime ???

Does anyone that that we should have taken the money?

Meanwhile, we have reportedly missed out on Brighton and Hove Albion defender Gordon Greer after the defender decision to sign a new deal with the south coast club.

The 32-year-old Brighton captain has been linked with Leeds for most of this summer, with Leeds boss Brian McDermott desperate to bring in a central defender with just Tom Lees and Jason Pearce recognised centre backs at the club.

Memories of the late Leeds United legend Gary Speed will loom large tonight (August 13) when a Whites side takes on a non-league team from his native Wales.

Speed’s parents, Roger and Carol, will be presented to both sets of players before the game between United’s development squad and Colwyn Bay FC.

The United side which coach Neil Redfearn is taking to this evening’s fixture will mainly comprise young professionals.

A Leeds spokesman told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “We’re delighted Roger and Carol will be attending the game and will be presented to the players.

“Given that Gary started his career as an apprentice with us, it’s fitting that it’s our development squad, because he was a fantastic role model and an inspiration to all young players.”

Wales manager Speed was found hanged at his home on the outskirts of Chester in November 2011.

    Morning ell, all <ok>

No way would Bates have turned a bid like that down, but similarly, no way should we accept it. Ross is invaluable to us at the minute, for spirit as much as his ability on the field. We really do need to hang on to him, any idea who the bid was from?

Greer would have been a decent shout, but I imagine he wouldn't have been cheap to get in. Sounds like McDermott is still shopping around for captain material though. I really do hope we can get another CB through the door. We could still do with getting another backup CB as well to be honest, but not as a priority over wingers.

I'm sure there'll be a good reception for Speeds parents tonight <cheers>

Morning all. No point in selling Ross for pennies like that. Would we buy anyone as good with 1.3m, not likely. Best to keep him, at least we know what we have with him and certainly don't want another Morisson fiasco. Where the hell have the wallies gone? Did they all decide to holiday at the same time or what? Hope mcd manages to get in the two signings the chairman promised him in the next two weeks. Happy with our starting eleven mainly but in the event of injuries or suspensions, our bench doesn't look great.
Surely this week we should get an idea on recovery time for Byram. A bit frustrating he's had this injury all summer and decision only being made now if he needs an operation. Seems like four months wasted to me but at least he's unlikely to appear on anyone's radar for another season now

Morning all. £1.3m for Ross? Not bad if GFH have turned that down. Shows we've moved a long way in a couple of months. No way Papa Smurf would have turned down that sort of money. Glad that we have though. Anyone know who put the bid in?

On Byram, I hope we see him back soon. Good that we now won't be getting any serious bids for him in this TW, but we need to be there or thereabouts come 1 January to be able to fend off bids from a number of sides both in the championship and elsewhere.

Good that the club are remembering Gary Speed one year on. Do we think there'll be some community singing on 11 minutes on Saturday against the Wendies?

    Morning twots :emoticon-0103-cool:

A few months ago Ross would be a Midds player and been sold for £1m as Bates wouldn't have waited for them to come back with an improved offer. I wish Ross had taken his chance on Sunday as the price would have been £1.5m, but never mind everything I've seen has Ross stating he wants to be here for the long haul, so great.

Wish we had Byram back as he is going to be class that we don't have right now. Hope BMD gets a couple of new players and as has been said countless times by most on here .... we need a centre back and at least one class winger.

Hall is never mentioned by the manager now at all, especially when saying we have no wingers. Too true and although I was chuffed to bits when Warnock got White to sign a new contract, I now wish he hadn't because he's not a winger and not a defender, well not in this league anyway.

Morning all - Isn't Byram out for several months? I am sure I read that somewhere the other day?

Reading Sky Sports it sounds like Greer and Mills were two big targets for the manager, not that he wanted both, either one would do and it seems Bolton now wish to hang on to Mills so back to the drawing board.

McCormack is one of our better players, saying that I don't overly rate him and I don't believe we will see 20 goals out of him, decent offer at the wrong time.

Morning!! We can't afford to sell Roscoe right now, will struggle to find a suitable replacement. Looks as if we will be a centre back light, that is a worry and will hamper us. Hopefully McD can bring a quality defender in, may have to be a loan from the Prem once their squads are announced, should be a few available who are not given a number including Wootton at Scum.

Ross needs to start scoring otherwise 2 million and they can have him get a million quid striker in and a winger with the change

Mc Cormack IMO offers more to the team than just as an out and out striker, yes he's there to score goals but so are the other forwards. I'd rather we'd get goals from all over the park than Ross score 20. I don't see the point in selling him, because we probably won't be able to replace him especially as most of the players that were out there have probably been snapped up and the transfer window is rapidly closing and personally I hate loanees.

This is what is worrying me:

Best season McCormack has had for scoring goals was 08/09 when he netted 21 times
Best season Hunt has had was in 08/09 when he scored 13 times.
Best season Varney has had was 06/07 when he scored 17 times (no other season has he ever got into double figures)

If the three of them equal their best and let's be honest, all three are NOT going to manage that in the same season we have a tally of 51 goals. More realistically we can expect between 30 and 40 at best, that is nowhere near enough goals for a team looking to press for the play offs.

Come on guys, how many goals does a team need to challenge for a top 6 and where are they going to come from if at least one striker doesn't bag more than 20 goals.

This is a bit of a Catch 22. I honestly feel he will be banging them in if he wasn't needed to drop back and create most of our chances. So we'd be selling our best chance of scoring goals to bring in a winger to create the chances for that (now sold) striker. Yes, we have other strikers, but Ross played up front would be most prolific

In a perfect world all our forwards would score 15+ goals, but that depends on team tactics, formations etc etc.
I'm not into the world of stats, it bores the bollox off me. All I know is if we score 1 more goal than the opposition we win the game and get 3 pts.
    Simple logic I know.

Looking at past figures for goals scored to make the top 6 you need in the region of 70 goals - We have not got 70 goals a season in our current squad, we haven't a chance of promotion if the starting 11 on Saturday stayed fit and played every game this season. Like stats or not you cannot ignore them.

Fair enough. I can't really argue the point with you Ristac because I've no clue or interest in stats, it just gives me a headache...:headbang:

All I'll say and I know it's stating the bleedin obvious is that we need a few more players in because although we've started well there are going to be games that will go either way. Not trying to sound pessimistic, but we could have drawn against Brighton and chesterfield and lost to the foxes.

We do need some players to step up in a big way in terms of goals, but we have looked more solid defending at least. If we concede less goals, we have to score less to win games <laugh>

Not arguing with you mate <ok> Just worried about where our goals are going to come from and a shame that we rely now on McCormack who isn't a prolific scorer. I agree with another comment, 2m and he can go as long as we bring in the likes of Rowe and another striker

    Shaks

I don't think he is good enough to play in the role he currently is imo and seeing Chris Dawson many times in that role I would take 2 million for Ross (I love the guy but no good enough for a luxury player) and play daws there

Interesting a couple of weeks back, the talk was all about consolidation this season. Two games in and were discussing chances of play offs. If we win at weekend, well be discussing what were short to win the title

Absolutely, I think if we have an amazing season with the current squad we'll just scrape a place in the top 6. But that will need us to go on a really, really, really good run, I think top 10 is achievable though.

But come on, we're Leeds fans! If the expectations didn't run riot, it just wouldn't be the same <laugh>
