Just found this site with squad numbers from the years gone buy. Some players I had completely forgotten about. All the way back to 99-00 http://www.hullcity-mad.co.uk/feat/ed31/200102_squad_numbers_353281/index.shtml
Ok, here's a few, if the older fans want to add to it, tried to only add notable players... no gaff like Walton for the sake of filling in a number! Put some question marks next to a few players regarding whether they should be seen as notable or not. I think our 'special number' can't be based on the number of notable players we've had with that number, as some are more notable than others - I think achievements (while at the club), likeability, loyalty and ability need to be taken into account. Would be cool to find our 'special number' though - adds a bit more of the important stuff to Hull City AFC's history in amongst the smog of Americanisation. 1 Myhill, Bly, Norman 2 Rosenior(?) 3 Dawson 4 Ashbee, Whittle 5 Cort, Chester, Jobson 6 Hobbs, Turner 7 Elliott, ***an, Payton 8 Barmby, Roberts, 9 Windass, Chilton, Burgess, Whitehurst, 10 Wagstaff, Allsopp, Geovanni, Koren, Edwards 11 Hunt, Whitmore, Carter, Hughes(?), Askew, 12 Duke, Fryatt, 13 14 Green, Garcia, Parlour(?) 15 W.Brown, B.Mendy, McShane 16 Delaney 17 18 Price 19 20 Pedersen(?), Boateng(?), 21 Ricketts 22 23 Whitmore, King, Faye 24 Aluko 25 F.Campbell, Cousin(?), 33 Jimmy Bullard (first season), Brewster Frizzell, Stelios Giannakopoulos, Aaron McLean (first season), Nick Proschwitz 44 JayJay Okocha Feel free to copy, paste and add to the list. No.33 is obviously our 'bogey' number and we should never give a player that number again! I bet Zaki and Sonko asked for it, but were beaten to it!
It wasn't to fill a number, it was to draw on OLM's long standing respect and admiration for the most talented player ever to play for us, and also the one who nobbled him in training.
3- Jimmy Graham, 7-David Rocastle I think. 8- Jamie Forrester? 11- Neil Mann, Leigh Jenkinson (not for being good, just fast on that footballers 100m dash, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leigh_Jenkinson) 12- Ian Goodison 13- Steve Wilson? 14- Warren Joyce If Micheal Bridges was good he could have had the 17, likewise John Welsh 19. 29- Big Jan VofH

Of those though, remove the ones you wouldn't associate with the number. I mean come on, ask 10 fans what number Frizzell wore and how many will know? I'd be surprised if more than half the people who read this thread could tell you in a couple of days time, never mind a random fan at a game.
I didn't put Frizzell on. Honestly, I didn't even notice him on there. I don't even remember him at all.
Your post was just the one with the biggest list. I was just making the point that the list was starting to deviate. For our "special" number players like Frizzell are irrelevent. I've got a feeling we could be saying 4 by the end of this season, especially if Davies takes it and is a leader. The Great Escape captain, the all 4 divisions captain, and the 2nd time survival in the PL captain all having the same number would be making it significant, would certainly be looking at it becoming the captain's number on a regular basis through status.
I put Frizzell in not to show how great the no.33 is tobus, I was proving a point about how it looks to be a bit of a bogey number for us.
OK, revised: 1 Myhill, Bly, Norman, Wealands, McKechnie 2 Rosenior, 3 Dawson, Jacobs, Figueroa, 4 Ashbee, Whittle 5 Cort, Chester, Jobson 6 Hobbs, Turner 7 Elliott, ***an, Payton, Garcia (final season), Marwood, Joyce, Roberts 8 Barmby, Roberts, Huddlestone, Bunn 9 Windass, Chilton, Burgess, Whitehurst, Dyer, 10 Wagstaff, Allsopp, Geovanni, Koren, Edwards, Mutrie 11 Hunt, Whitmore, Carter, Hughes, Askew, Brady 12 Duke, Fryatt, Goodison, Savile 13 14 Green, Garcia, Parlour, 15 W.Brown, B.Mendy, McShane 16 Delaney, Chester (first season) 17 Andrews (?), Bridges (?), Boyd 18 Price, Barmby 19 20 Pedersen, Boateng, 21 Ricketts 22 Koren (first season) 23 Whitmore, King, Faye 24 Aluko 25 F.Campbell, Cousin, Gerrard 27 Elmohamady 29 Mannone, Quinn, 33 Jimmy Bullard (first season), Brewster Frizzell, Stelios Giannakopoulos, Aaron McLean (first season), Nick Proschwitz 44 JayJay Okocha For the older ones to add: Stuart Pearson, Viggo Jensen, Ken Houghton, Jackie Smith, Andy Davidson, Ray Henderson, Ian Butler, Eddie Burbanks ...any others?
Slight change I would make: Vito wore the 42 when he first came, and he himself said he preferred that number. He wanted it when he came back during 2011/12.
