I must say, the manager has made an absolute masterstroke by having him on our coaching staff, our youngster will learn a lot from him and will know what it takes to be a United player, from what i've seen from him so far, i've been impressed, he's giving out tactics to our players, he's settled in well although he knows some of our team already, When he retired at the end of the season, i wanted us to get him back to the club as a coach and i'm glad we have, it'll help the manager settle in knowing he has one of our former players to get him use to United.
from what i seen our defense was shambolic just bcz he is giving orders, it doesn't mean he will be a great coach let us see how it goes with him .. it is too early to judge the guy
Not having a go at Neville but I don't understand how a player deemed not good enough for Utd is now good enough to train and give orders to these superior players?
???? Moyes as a player was no doubt inferior to the Utd players and yet is giving them orders. Same thing would have applied to SAF. Don't get your point. Neville was as good as Rafael as a FB IMO and much better than Anderson as a CM.
This. SAF was a pretty mediocre player, and Mourinho didnt even play professionally at all (his dad did), yet they are two of the best. I always rated P Neville as a player anyway. What I want to know it how Meth knows what has been happening behind closed doors in training and how he knows Neville helped Moyes settle in
With regard to Jose you're right. Its not a given that the best players become great managers. Bryan Robson, Bobby Charlton, Roy Keane, Tony Adams, Paul Merson, Gazza etc are examples of top players who failed to carry it on as manager.
Spot on, which is why I want Bebe to take over as manager if Moyes doesn't make it . On a serious note though, I certainly agree with your point, but regarding Phil I can't really say we've seen or heard enough from him or from the players yet to really assess how much of a good or bad impact he's having, I think he should do well but I can't say how he's doing yet.
Moyes obviously is surrounding himself with guys he trusts and knows. Bringing Phil in makes sense in that he knows him, trusts him, and knows Utd. Not rocket science.
Mediocre is probably too strong but while SAF scored goals and i believe was once the most expensive player in Scotland, he never played for his country and never is talked about as a top player.
The fact that he did all that in Scotland kind of negates all those stats. Chris Sutton was awesome for Celtic! Nuff said. He wasnt a bad player, but my point was he is not remembered as one of the great players, even in Scotland (ie Archie Gemmill etc) yet was a brilliant manager.
Yeah but SAF and Mourinho etc had experience and proved themselves whilst learning before stepping up to coach superior players. Neville on the other hand has gone from a Everton substitute to a Utd coach in a matter of months. My theory is probably way off if he has been privately coaching and studying for years but I wouldn't be happy with a player deemed not good enough for Norwich then coming back to the club as one of the most influential coaches.
Way too early to give an opinion of him as a coach either way to be honest. I fail to see how his status as a player has any bearing on his coaching abilities though, like the examples I have just given, some of the least known, mediocre players can go on to make great coaches and managers and some of the best players can make the ****test managers ie Souness, Hughes, Maradona, Gazza etc
Arriogo Sacchi the Italian coach never played football professionally, and before becoming a football manager he was a shoe salesman. He said to someone that questioned his qualifications: "I never realised that in order to become a jockey you have to have been a horse first".
There is always an exception to the rule Matth. Scottish football today is in a poor state compared to what it should be.
