Another humiliation today to add to the long, and seemingly endless, list of what's wrong with our club. We can use all the excuses we want but the plain simple truth is our management don't have any ability to get it right. Sure SOD is new to the job but the task of rebuilding this team should have started immediately he came on board and not waited until now. We should have stayed up last year and all the pundits who said we needed to clear out the house must be scratching their heads right now and asking themselves why are we still waiting. The FFP regulations have been used as a reason why we must endure the current state of affairs and yet we still have on board, and still continue to play, some players who should have been sent down the line 2 years ago, and even worse some that should never have come here in the first place. Our latest manager is bandied around as our saviour and an all around footballing guru who can apparently change the course of clubs and individual players with just a word in the right direction or ear. Frankly I see a man who seems prepared to travel a somewhat similar path than the others who went before and yet nothing appears to be changing when it comes to a lousy defence that is a total embarrassment. It leads me to ask just who is running this sinking ship, and my advice to them is to start getting things right ,or else the future could sink even lower. I see my club in total disarray and it breaks my heart when I realise, that despite all the seemingly right words here and there, we are still living on hope rather than logical reasoning.
i don't always agree with you mike but on this i do the same problems should not be rearing their heads esp with a manager who has been in the game for a while
It's not the same problems. Obvious change O'driscoll has created is a team playing narrower, that has created space for he opposition. Simple to alter in theory. One draw, win and defeat nothing to get giddy about ... It's still August.
One defeat this season? We haven't won a league game since last March! We've had a new manager since January and in spite of all his rhetoric and beautifully composed programme notes, WE ARE STILL GIVING GOALS AWAY THAT YOUR LOCAL PUB TEAM IN A SUNDAY LEAGUE WOULD BE ASHAMED OF. Today we lost but last Saturday we could easily have lost if Bradford's Wells had got his early header from a corner on target instead of hitting the post. BJA we are very weak at the back and burying one's head ostrich style does not wash with some of us who can foresee the possibility of a really dire end to this season unless the management remove their heads from their rectums.
Wake up and smell the roses people because we're heading down the same path as seasons past. I can appreciate the comments regarding the changes that SOS has made but let me remind you that we were 0-3 down at halftime and have given up the points in the last minutes in our last 2 matches. To those who haven't noticed - we've seen this all before, so nothing has changed despite your protestations about my thread.
I can't comment on this performance as I didn't hear it the 15 mins or so I did hear at the start of the game sounded so good. I have been calling for Fontaine's head for quite sometime now All we seem to get from him over the last 3 years is a short spell each year where he looks good and the rest of the season he is rubbish and to think that he has been made captain in the past during this decline in performances. So far on different threads he has been blamed for 3 or 4 of the goals we conceeded yesterday which was the difference between a comfortable win and a defeat, However had Baldock taken one of the early chances it could still have been so different I suppose ah well on to the next game when hopefully Fontaine will have been releated to a supporting role, handing out the drinks would be my first choice. All I can think is that Fontaine must look like a world beater in training for him to be first choice for so many different managers but what Sean has to remember is doesn't matter how good he looks in training he is crap when it comes to match day.
If you pick the same players (Fontaine) who played a huge part in our relegation last season then you should expect the same sort of results this time around. Scoring 4 goals away from home and not getting anything is bad enough, but conceding 5 is simply unacceptable. I will still give SOD the benefit of the doubt for now while the team get to know each other, but a defeat at home to Wolves on Saturday will leave us with a single point from 3 games. As someone once said, if you don't concede, you wont lose.
We know where the weak link is, and this must be dealt with- To my mind, SOD must have known the tactics were wrong first half. The only think he did wrong was wait until half time. Cov scored in the 43rd and 45th minutes. Both Johnson and Wison had in games before changed the side earlier in the half when it was evident the selection was wrong. Having changed the shape, it was a great achievement to pull back to 3-3. If that had happened to us at home, you would have fancied the away team to continue the momentum and go on and win the game- I am sure we would have until Fontaine immediately undoes it all. The rest of the team must have felt really deflated. Somehow we get back to 4-4 only to let parity last again for 2 minutes. Plenty is said about the defence, but Cunningham, Moloney and Fielding have been there for a year or less.
The team is different. The shape is different. Last season the team was going down threes and fours because individuals were not trying or not trying very hard. Last seasons team I doubt would have pulled it back to 4-4 because to do that you have to up the effort. So no we have not seen it all before or not in the last few seasons. Silly reactions on here after a win v Gillingham and again after a defeat in the second game of the season in the league.
Disagree. Conceding 5 goals is always going to cause outbursts as does throwing away needless league points.
The first half was embarrassing but the fight back was encouraging. Sure up the defence and we will be fine. People over reacting to a freak game...
Giddy after Gillingham and Coventry. Conceding five goals and scoring four should lead to ok what was good what was bad did the four contribute to the five are the team open do they fall back quick enough too narrow maybe banks of four here that sort of sketch. What it shouldn't lead to is scapegoating. It's a team game. Quick cursory look on TV showed the team not working crosses and getting stretched also showed the good. Interesting so far signs of improvement. no train crash no panic needed. .
I have seen one league game out of two, a draw, can barely recognise some of the new players yet and already people are on the players and head coaches back. Bizarre.
So, to be clear, you are A) Quite happy with us conceding 5 goals ? B) Throwing away at least a point after a great fightback from 0-3 down ? C) Happy with Fontaine in the team ? I have endured (there is no other suitable word for it) some 42 years of supporting Bristol City and for the vast majority of all that time we've been massive under achievers. We have spent almost all of my time supporting a club playing at all levels of the English game with relatively little success. I've seen a few brief years of top flight football which ended when it shouldn't have, a few promotions, an FA Cup 6th round tie that we lost, 2 LC Semi Final's, a Freight Rover win, a JPT win and that's about it, unless you include all of the play off failures, losing to Mansfield on penalties at Wembley and to Stoke. Overall there has not been a lot to cheer about from the 7th biggest city in the country, Therefore when we up against a team who are in complete disarray, under a transfer embargo, and not even playing in their home town and we ship 5 goals, I think I've every right to question things.
That's well put- We have been shipping goals for fun like that in games for the last 3 seasons- You never know quite what to expect- There are several, I can only think optimistic positivity, references, on various sites and phone ins, to the fact that Fontaine did clear one off the line- For what he gets paid, that might be the least I would expect.
Have to agree that it is way too early to get depressed. I'm sure that if we had won the first two league games, some on here would be saying it's too early to get excited! I'll give it 10 games before I cut the cut-throat out!!!
Exactly my sentiments. For 42 years in my case substitute 64 years and one more promotion 1955 and one more relegation 1960. At this rate, even though it's only the second league game of the season, we are going nowhere fast!
I dont want to be a doom and gloom merchant but there are visible seeds of serious deja vu here already this season.
