â¬15M bid already, and talk of them coming back with a bigger bid. Is there a bid where you would bite their hand off? Or is Agger too important to let go at any price?
At the moment - no price. Even his agent agrees that as he has a new 3 year contract it would be up to Liverpool to agree a fee if they wanted to. Unless the club have a replacement lined-up then he's going nowhere.
We need loyal passionate players like Agger, who suit our style of play. I want him to retire with us.
I'd take 30mill for him easily. He's not THAT good. Take the money, buy Papa and Alderwield then a forward. job done.
Reminds me of Sami Hyypia. So no. He's been with us through thick and thin. No price. He's a top defender that could play for anyone and he has chosen to stay. No amount of money is worth more.
Keep him at whatever cost. We need player who are committed to the cause and nobody can doubt Agger's allegiance and determination. Having a team full of mercenaries does not guarantee success, I want a few players who want to return Liverpool to greatness rather than players who will only wait around so long for it.
And Sami was someone we bought. What's to say replacements wouldn't be just as loyal? Agger's an ok defender. We can do better. If a silly bid comes in, we'd be crazy to reject it when the likes of Papa and Alder are available and would consider LFC even without CL football.
Who's to say Papa and Alder will fit seamlessly into a new partnership with Toure? Who's to say they will even adapt to English football easily so soon in their career? We need a modicum of stability in the side if we ever hope to start moving up the table and changing around centre backs every season is not the way to do it. If we want to make room for a new, young centre back. Sell Skrtel rather than our new vice-captain.
15-20 mil pounds, I am one who thinks we need a re-shuffle in the back and get some new fresh faces. I don't want him to leave, I would much rather Skrtel go, but if that came in you could probably get two quality CB's ( even in this market they should not be 15 mil per). Again, don't want him gone but if someone showed that 20 mil pounds, would be tough for me. I do respect his loyalty ( so far) though and know he is fully down for the cause.
Keep him for this alone. Money doesn't buy real loyalty. Some players buy into the club and not just their wage packet. I don't see the point in changing a player unless you make an improvement. I'd be happy to see a beast like Papa come in to play alongside Agger, but is Aldo really an improvement? What do we gain?
I think Alderweild is quality although many seem to doubt that ( not sure why?). Again, would much rather get that 10 mil from Skrtel and keep Agger but if push came to shove, think Agger gets caught out on set-pieces,his man-marking is not the best and gets beat on some easy movements by the forwards, but again he can distribute something special and that is important in our gameplay. Very tough saint, very tough but if I knew I had two quality replacements or were able to replace and add to another position ( steel in the middle) then it would be tempting.
Spearing was loyal and most people couldn't wait to get shut of him. Agger is loyal and an alright defender. 30mill is a load for someone of his ability. The question was is there a price. For me, yes, there's better around and we're hardly swimming in money. But we're not gonna get 30 for him so who gives a ****?
I can't argue with you about individual players because I don't get to see as much non PL football as you ( you've obviously got far too much time on your hands ). I'm going on what others say and they seem to think Alderweild is more or less on a par with Danny. I agree that Agger has limitations, I've said before I don't think he attacks the ball strongly enough. He's not perfect, but I doubt the others are either. I may be being sentimental, but in the middle of a ****storm about Suarez' distinct lack of loyalty, I'm thinking it's a quality we shouldn't undervalue. Loyalty works both ways, also. Obviously if you're going to make a marked improvement you can't let that stand in your way, but I'd have to be convinced that it was a significant step forward. As I said, bring in a monster to win possession, then leave Agger to do the pretty stuff.
would a player as good or better than Agger sign for us even with a big pile of cash in our hand? no.
Completely agree Saint, jsut kind of going with the OP and the price I would sell at. Like I said and we both agree on, I don't want to, but do want Skrtel to go and bring in someone better, better in the tackle, better in the air, etc. Was hoping Coates was going to be that but sadly it looks as if he is not. Not so much that I have so much time on my hands ( especially on weekends due to coaching) but just try to always catch highlights or games when i can just to see different leagues, different styles, and just the game man.
