That state has some serious issues, are they all mental.

Shooting teenager over argument about loud music
stalking and shooting of a teenager because he looked suspicious
That dude who killed his wife and posted it on Facebook
Police tasered an 18 year old that killed him because he ran?! no threat to anyone, all because he sprayed paint on a wall.
Killing sprees like the dude who killed 6 people last month.
2 teenagers killed and burned by two sick ****s.

This is just a snapshot of the violence in Florida, wtf is wrong with that state.

When I went I hired one, just to fit in <ok>

I think a lot of the problem stems from Miami and the amount of Jamaicans and Caribbean's wanting to take over the drug trade. When I lived in Jamaica it was most peoples dream to move to Miami - But I'm not talking about the 'good' Jamaicans, I'm talking about the Shanty town guys. The trouble is most can't move due to Visa reasons.

Although the crimes mentioned in the OP are mainly local stories, the organised crime there is off the scale.

Yeah that's true. Plus a lot of the other Islands I visited when over there, the Bajuns seemed keen on the idea. It's gonna get worse, as more and more make the move - some avoiding even getting a visa and becoming illegal immigrants. ****'s gonna get Wild...

Don't **** with the haitians! They are the mental ones!

With the zimmerman case, the prosecuters ****ed up in the evidence, who they put on the stand, and also what they were charging him for ( went too high for murder 1 or something like that and then the evidence wasn;t quite there, even though it was clear that it was).

Also have to remember Sisu that Florida is also a retirement state where old people go to bask in the sun in their final days. As long as **** don't affect them, they don't bother. Hell they can't even vote for a president correctly!

Oh and the wifey is from Florida..... <yikes>

    <laugh> Bet you're well behaved<ok>

Zimmerman yeah, there was another case before that were 2 guys shot a black teenager, apparently the prosecutors went ****ing nuts that they were allowed use stand your ground.

But I mean in general dude, without going into the drug gangs the above are just day to day things. From the outside it looks and feels like one massive mental asylum.

What the **** were the police thinking with the spray painter though<doh> Running away after spraying paint on a wall doesn't justify the use of a taser. He was a skinny little dude, not a pick on him, no doubt a sliver compared to the muscle bound cops who shot him with the taser.

it just seem like it's open season on teenagers in Florida. I know the dude that went nuts in the apartments is rare, well, not exactly rare over there but not as common as 16-18 year olds dying undeservedly. There seems to be a fear in the air over there in some parts that just adds to the danger, I mean, If I took a holiday there next week I'd be quite suspicious and jumpy no matter which part I was visiting.

As for the guy who killed his wife and posted a picture on facebook, saying I can't take her punching me anymore<yikes>

Stand your ground....... one of those laws/rules where a double face palm is not enough!

Stand your ground for a fight with maybe fists or something like that but when guns are involved you are asking for trouble!

I just watched the Zimmerman trial on Youtube. It's a very interesting case and rather than saying this is an isolated incident of racism, it's better to say the trial and case are indicative of a wider probem with race and racial prejudice in the American justice system that needs seriously addressing. The issue is complicated in the case because Zimmerman isn't white, as a lot of people seem to presume, but actually Hispanic.

The prosecution/state lawyers tried for second degree murder when the most they could probably prove would have been manslaughter. They were unlikeable and aggressive in their approach which didn't help them but their case wasn't well put together. A lot of the witnesses undermine what they argue. It also doesn't help that the girl Trayvon Martin was speaking to on the phone, Rachel Jeantel, is very inarticulate and didn't seem especially pleased to be in court.

Both defence lawyers come across much better and presented a compelling argument saying to the jury that there is no factual basis as to what happened at Retreat at Twin Lakes. Everything Zimmerman is accused of is speculation, therefore there is too much reasonable doubt and you can't convict him. The defence was also based around Trayvon Martin having the opportunity (4 mins) to leave the area and go home but that in those four minutes he chose not to and instead assaulted Zimmerman who then acted in self defense as Martin was straddling him on the grass smashing his head into the pavement. They played up Martin's physical size saying the autopsy photos gave a false image of Martin because in death the muscles and nerves relax and you lose 70% of your blood (then they showed topless pictures of him from his phone for example, where he looks quite jacked)

It's very difficult/impossible to say what happened that night, there's only half a story in the end. I think there's a lot of manipulation going on by people invested in different political/cultural causes. Also, we have to remember that only days later Zimmerman was in the news again for pulling people out of a burning car. The defence said that this was in his nature, to be on the guard for the benefit of his community, as there had been a spate of burglaries, the prosecution suggested that he profiled and stalked Martin as he wanted to be a cop, an unfulfilled ambition that left him frustrated.

Went to Florida for our honeymoon more than 10 years ago and I really enjoyed it apart from the theme parks which were a bit cheesy.

I loved the airboat ride in the everglades, didn't go near Miami though so maybe I missed all the badass stuff there.

One of the few places I'd actually go back to if I had the chance.

They screwed it up alright, for me any defence of Zimmerman fails at the point at which the police told him not to follow Martin, Martin would be alive today if Zimmerman had done what the police operator told him to do, it is also worth noting that if some strange dude is following you, you move away and he comes after you, at that point you have to make a decision, if you are gonna try put him down, you wanna make sure he stays down. in times when everyone is very aware of strangers snatching up people and attacking people especially in the US and it seems Florida its self can be a very dangerous place, I would imagine it "possible" martin feared for himself, if I was in the situation where someone was following me for no reason and I felt I had to act, I would also put the guy down and make sure he stayed down, as Gerrez said before, some guy who thought his gerrez mate was up to no good jumped out at them and Gerrez mate put the guy in his own conservatory and you could not fault that action, the guy should have called the police.

in the end if my kid phones me saying someone was following him and kept following him, the situation would not end well for that person following my lad

They need more and bigger guns. In fact they could 'stand their ground' a lot better if they all dispensed with walking altogether and went about their daily business in Sherman tanks. "Stand your ground" would result in four battles of Kursk a week.

Seriously, wtf is wrong with that place!
    http://www.rte.ie/news/2013/0825/470175-florida-charge/

An American woman has been charged with murdering her Florida-based Irish boyfriend.

Wendy Hank, 33, of Christmas in Florida has been charged with the first degree murder of 39-year-old Darren William Haverty.

Mr Haverty, who had been living in the US. was originally from Greenhills in Dublin.

Osceola County Police say officers arrived at around 1am last Tuesday following a shooting at Harris Road in St. Cloud.

Ms Hank told police she and her boyfriend were involved in a verbal and physical altercation.

County Police say she claimed to have been attacked and shot her partner after he approached her with a knife.

However detectives discovered evidence at the crime scene and during the autopsy which they believe conflicts with Ms Hank's statements of self-defence.

She was then arrested and charged and is being held at Osceola County Jail.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to Mr Haverty's family.
