I'd be more concerned if he was stretchered off (obviously) but still expect him to be out for a few weeks at least.

I still don't have any faith in Fox when Hooiveld is on the pitch, and vice versa. Shaw injured is such a big blow.

Did they say which ligament? I'm assuming collateral then.... any damage to the CCL (or ACL in human speak) is serious.

Well MCL would be more preferable, if any.

They don't even know for sure it's ligament damage, let alone which ligament! If it's MCL (which you'd think by "not serious" it might be) then it's 3-6 weeks. ACL would be very, very bad news.

Both Jake Flannigan and Matt Targett have signed pro contracts today, Targett may even be on the bench next week if Clyne and Shaw are both out

Back from game, Shaw looked in agony. Tried to get his leg around the defender and fell awkwardly.
Physio had a good feel of the knee and obviously did not think it was too serious to warrant a stretcher which is encouraging but he certainly does not look like he'll be playing anytime soon.

Looked great going forward and Lambert was on fire with Lallana and Rodriguez making great runs for him. We should of been out of sight after 20 minutes but then the poor defending kicked in. All the goals were very poor from our point of view. The 1st was just embarrassing.

Wanyama was great, lovely assist for Schneiderlin and his passing was pretty crisp.
Lovren was ok, but I didn't see him as a massive improvement on Fonte from this performance. Still best to wait on competitive matches.

Would be naff to be without Clyne and/or Shaw but to be fair if we were to start the season lining up with Chambers and Targett at full-back it would be a little exciting and another feather in the cap of our academy, providing they didn't do absolutely woefully. Fox is obviously still ahead of Targett though, so won't happen even if we are without both.

Unfortunately Targett hasn't had any match practice.

Provided there's no meniscal injury. Meniscal tear = arthroscopy. I really hope its mild and just a couple of weeks.

Not with the first team, no, which is why I doubt he has any chance of involvement in the near future other than possibly the League Cup. Good old Foxy it is then, do us proud Danny!

Provided our CB pairing is functioning I'm not that worried about Fox at LB. If he is to start, would you facous a midfield of schneid, cork, wanyama to give us a more solid defensive feel?

    6,000 v Ajax
    8,000 v Real Sociedad

Do you think it will ever sink in with Saints that they are overpricing these friendlies? Even the skates got 8,000 for a friendly against Charlton.

    Never mind, club knows best.

That's because it was the big emotional "we own our own club" celebration day, their attendance was below 5000 for their next friendly.

Not to detract from the point - we are overpricing friendlies, otherwise I'd probably have gone.

I just don't get the club's approach to these games. They hype them up, urge fans to "beat the rush for tickets" and "arrive early!!"... then the ground is a quarter full at best.

Do they want fans to turn up, or really the pricing is also to make sure they don't have a big crowd that will mean having to put on extra stewards etc?

I'd say, if you are going to have home friendlies, make them cheap and heres an even more radical idea... those fans who have just stumped up £600-£800 for their season tickets... get in free.

I know, I'm being silly again.

Surely it would be better to halve the ticket prices and double the attendance. Making more with programmes and food etc. Or is that just too simplistic?

Also if you lower prices and get people in that don't normally go, they may like what they see and come back and pay full price for a league game.

That sounds sensible to me. I just get a feeling that the club (Cortese) is insistant that every game must run at a profit or at the very least break even.

Funny how the club can afford to hire a private jet to fly journos to Austria but it seems almost shocking to them to offer cheap tickets for a friendly to their most loyal supporters.
